Hi there!
I am a foreign student (with legal status) here in Canada. My gf and I married last week. It was a religious ceremony. We now plan on legalizing our marriage by the earliest.
My wife wants to move in with me but I dont have a work permit. Is there a possibility that I could apply for a work permit to support us both while she sponsors me? Whats the procedure and how long does it take? Any guesses?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
Why don't you apply as a PR, which you could get in about 3-4 months instead of work permit. The latter being temporary, you would anyway have to resort to applying PR in the future. My suggestion is to apply for PR as soon as possible. If all your documents are in order and you could provide ample proof of your marriage then you could be a PR in about 3 months.
Hope it helps.
I would still need to work to support us both until the PR process begins, in our case about 3 to 4 months considering our expenses and other financial commitments. So something to begin with on a temp. basis in order to save up some towards the sponsorship process is what we would like ideally at this time and in these circumstances atleast.
