Sympathetic to you situation .

Truly appreciate your guts for driving a 12 yr old clunker across this vast continent.

Here are a few options you might want to consider :

1)Sell the car online or by phone for parts and mail them the papers . But
first check if a Canadian registered vehicle can be sold in the US.

2)Rent a U haul truck in Canada , travel to PA , tow the Corolla back to Canada
and dispose it either for parts or scrap.

Its just not worth spending more money trying to fix an old car. Engine transplants are not as simple as they sound. It requires a good mechanic
and a good engine. There's absolutely no guarantee of sucess either.

Your best option however is to start looking for another car preferably a new one . While you are at it ask the salesguy if he is willing to take your Corolla
as a trade in. A fistful of loonies might be all that he offers but you would not have to bother disposing it.

and oh ! get rid of your current roadside assistance provider . The C in
the name is most often reffered to as crappy for a reason. Try CAA instead. Your best bet however for driving long distances into the states is a rental car - they are newer , come with roadside assistance and dont let you down.

Mine was an older car. Got that checked by two mechanics. Was not advisable to repair. Thanks for the concern.

While we empathise with meitsme, but as a newbie, this episode has many learning points

1. If going across border to US in an old car, it is prudent to have CAA (or Toyota backup valid in USA) or use rental car and if you doubt your car due to age or condition get car checked/certified as roadworthy by a known mechanic before long distance journey...

2. It is easy said but we sometimes under pressure of time or resources overlook such minor details which eventually blow up and cause undue hardship and heartburn.

I have been putting off my maiden journey to US for such reasons....and if possible go with a friend (another car) in case of any eventuality for the first time atleast.....

Experience CDs may find this irrelevant though but its good learning for new pardesi's

Safe & Happy Driving to all !

I have decided to sell this car to garage man. I'll not get money from him but he won't charge me for tow expense. He will send me receipt for towing charge and Canadian Tire will refund me. (Also, I don't want to spend money to bring my car to hear)

Now, the quesiton is how to deal with him. So, in future if my car will be used for wrong purpose, I'll not be responsible.

He just asked me ownership paper to send by mail.

Once I'll receive receipt, Should I sign ownership paper, keep a copy of it and send it to him by registered mail?

I have my number plates with me. I'll buy new car in one or two months and go to MTO to update their record that I am using my number plates with different car and old car doesn't belongs to me.

What else I suppose to take care in this deal?

I don't think so, he will go through all legal process of importing car from Canada to USA. He may fix it and use it. OR He may use spare parts and scrab it.

Looking for suggestions to deal with this guy..

Thanks
