This post is seeking is seeking advice from the fellow canadian desis.
Couple of months ago I received a notice from ontario court of justice , Toronto region informing me about my conviction for parking on a private property in the month of April 2009. The notice adviced me to pay fine of $46 . It also mentioned that in case of default of payment by the due date I shall incur additional penalties and the information may be provided to the "credit bureau".
This letter was big surprice to me as I have never been to the place of offence as mentioned in the notice. I went to parking enforcement office located in Eglinton Ave West to know the details. I was told to take a date to reopen the case in the court as it is too late to deal at the counter. I insisted on meeting the supervisor when the person in the counter declined to deal me no further.
I was lucky to have a supervisor who gave me a patient hearing. He dug all the records and informed me of an error in reading the parking ticket. I am told that the ticket was issued on the Number "XXLX 123" but the case has been sent to the court on the Number " XXCX 123" which is mine. I am promised that the ticket shall be killed I shall be informed accordingly, but that never happned.
Today when i went to renew my licence plate the parking ticket is still active on my plate. I ended up paying $66 as fine ($46 +$20 additional fine) to renew my licence plate.
My worry is is this going to effect my driving record and also the credit recod if I just ignore the incident. Should I fight it . My problem is I cannot take off from my work as i have joined this job recently.
Pl, advice.
I may be wrong but parking tickets don't go to Insurance records and defaulted payments < $100/- are also not reported to Credit Bureau ..
Maybe other CD s can advise better .
