I hear that most professional immigrants get stagnant if they do not go back to school and get certified. If this is an example of what the future holds for the young people of Canada then the future looks pretty bleak. If an immigrant finds it a hard time to find a job now I don't believe it will be any easier tomorrow to get a job than it is today at the rate Canada is taking in immigrants and refugees. As it stands today there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
Do you think decreasing the intake of immigrants will help the ones already in Canada find employment ???

Depends on the type of profession. I'm in I.T. and things change so fast, you always have to be on top of the new stuff. Now if I present my resume to you claiming that I know a certain new language and there is another guy who actually has gone to school and gotten himself certified with that language, who will you hire? (assuming we have identical experience otherwise).

As another example, my friend's wife used to be a pharmacist in India. She's currently giving some exams here to certify herself (there's about 4 exams from what I hear). They say that once you're certified here with this, jobs are aplenty and they pay quite well. However she's finding it extremely difficult to pass these exams here and there is just SO much to study, sometimes she feels like giving up. But this is necessary, ain't it?

So I don't see how studying to make a brighter future makes the future bleak. Even in India, professionals now try to get MBA's while they're working to give themselves the edge. I think its a pretty health trend. You (should) never stop learining!

Can't say for sure, because a report last year showed that the vibrance of the economy was helped in a large part by immigrants landing on our shores. And look at it from the other side too. There's so many people in India who want out, do you think they will just decide to stay back in India if the Cdn. govt. narrows its immigration doors? I highly doubt it, I think they'll look for other avenues elsewhere. This flow is inevitable as far as I can see it.

But I agree the Canadian govt. needs to conduct a more exhaustive study on new immigrant absorption into the country. There should be more stats on how many actually land the jobs they dream about before landing, how many get them eventually and how many never manage to get them. There should also be some stats on how many get fed up and decide to go back. And they should revise their immigration policy to accomodate these numbers. This is extremely difficult to do but would be worth it since people's entire lives are at stake.

Are you there?
