Hello all

I am focused on getting into DW and BI field as my next career move. I have been developing SW and designing DB for almost 8 years and currently employed in an insurance company in Toronto.

I spent a lot of time considering SAP BW/BI for this purpose, but the job prospect, I found, is not that great (not believing what the training institutes tell me). I found that the training costs charged by different institutes in GTA range from $1500 to $2500 for SAP BI and not sure how much exactly they will teach.

What if I learn both the Informatica and Cognos. I found that they cost less than SAP BW/BI for training and there are lots of opportunities in Canada, especially in GTA. I just want to invest my time and money in more realistic manner from the job perspective.

Can anyone in this forum shed some light in this regard?

Go in for Informaica & Cognos .... Pretty good opportunities ... After 2-3 years you can switch to SAP BI ..

SAP BW is pretty limited in opportunities .... Informatica / Data Stage pretty much comprise a majority of ETL opportunities and Cognos / Business Objects on the Reporting front .

A safe strategy when starting with BI / DWH is to gain experience in any tool (chances are there are more opportunities in the above ones ) and then later depending upon opportunity switch over to SAP BW / Hypherion / Ab Initio ... your take ........ chances are you would not need to

If you're thinking of a switch you can consider Business Object(BOBJ)...it's pretty exciting reporting frontend tool ..not much resources still available in the market ..I am still using mostly highly paid SAP consultants for my projects ...cognos I won't recommend..SAP BPC will be a better choice in next couple of years ..
