Friends,
Could anyone please shed some light on volunteering opportunities at Orphanages? I have been exploring some options off late. Some of my friends alerted to me saying since it’s a very sensitive subject – “kids” government takes full control on children’s aid society etc.
Would anyone of you know any orphanages preferably in Brampton/Mississauga and even Etobicoke where they are open for volunteer’s age range 8 to 40 years old? I am even looking into big brothers big sisters option but if I could hear any other options that would be great!

I am not sure whether "orphanages" exist here. What is possible is serving as a volunteer at any children's aid societies.The children's aid societies cares for vulnerable/orphan/destitute/abused children through foster care, group homes and supervised access visits.

These societies have a range of volunteer needs from driving children to and fro their meetings/appointments, to work in the office, one on one interaction with kids to supervising access visits. If you contact them they are likely to call you for an orientation where they will provide you with all their needs and ask you to choose the way in which you would like to volunteer. Like any charitable organisation they need a police clearance certificate from you which takes about three to four weeks to obtain. Take the form from them before going to the police station as that way you don't have to pay for the police clearance. They will aslo ask for references and interview you. I did not quite get what your friends meant but the societies do take their children and voluntering very seriously and so expect commitment and help from their volunteers.
