If Asian people are moving around in Toronto as per your above description, in old, dirty torn lungi, dhoti, pajama etc. then I can imagine the level of poverty that is increasing in down-town Toronto.

I fully agree to this. quality of life and financial stabilityo of every familiy of immigrant is bad.

Kuwaituser - that was a really well drafted and to the point reply. I have always said that each country has a lot of good in it, and also its own share of bad things - but Dubai specially and rest of the ME too has done a lot to remove the bad or unfortunate parts of it to a great extent. Who knows one day they might even be able to have artificial snow - I wil not be surprised atall.
People have to realise that that those countries are great which have fought against nature to provide something great to its citizens - countries like Dubai and Singapore (which does not even have it's own drinking water which has to be imported from Malaysia).
It is purely human nature that with time a person's needs keeps changing and therefore at one time some things of a country (like money in ME) are more important, and at others, some other things of another country (like higher education for children in canada/USA) become the priorities of life.

In Dubai the Indian labourers live a life of misery in there labour camps outside of Dubai and Sharjah. They live 5 - 10 to a room. I have seen these camps.
Plus Dubai is a sleazy city with Prostitutes openly soliciting outside the discos at night.
Yeh bhi meiney dekha hai.

I’m going to jump into this discussion………….and I’m going to be harsh.
Kuwaituser – if you’re trying to denigrate Canada, I draw your attention to August 2, 1990. Were you in Kuwait that day? Did you have time to collect your suitcase – or your savings from your bank account before you fled the country? Did you live in a camp in Iraq / Jordan for a week? If you – or anyone else – believe that ‘labour’ jobs are symptomatic of ALL immigrants in Canada, I’m quite happy to remind you of how you people lived like pigs in camps………so much for the Middle East that you guys love so much.
There are positives and negatives to both places. People from the Middle East usually post things to the effect that the savings are GREAT there. I’ve always said that the savings for the most part come from living frugally as compared to one’s life here in Canada.
On another thread, Deep posted typical salaries that Engineers earned in Dubai. He acknowledged that Engineers working for the smaller local companies could work for salaries as low as Dhs 5k odd per month. From my experience with the region, I do believe that a significant proportion of sub-continental expats earned in the region of Dhs 5k – 10k, which translates to about $21k - $42k Canadian, net of taxes – which isn’t a helluva lot of money here in Canada either.
If you are trying to compare the people who earn Dhs 30,000 with the guy who earns $40k per year in Canada, you’re comparing apples with oranges. When a person making Dhs 30k comes to Canada and can’t find a job that pays anything similar, he’s a failure himself, don’t go blaming the system for your failures. Admit it and STF up!!! There’s a lot of us, who do a lot better than that and don’t like the generalizations that you people make, this is infuriating!

The difference between prostitution in Dubai and that in Canada, is that it is zoned here in Toronto. You don’t have someone soliciting in front of your door!
