What they are looking for is THREE good years of stay.

1) You have complied with the PR requirements, which is Minimum of Two Years out of Five from the date of landing. You can renew your PR Card now.

2) You FIRST "Landed here on" `16th of April, 2005, to settle down. That is your date of entry to entry to LIVE in Canada.

3) Now they are playing on your conscience. The fact is you did come down here on the 16th of April of 2005. SO, that is the first day of stay.

They have buried in the guide some where that it has to be continuous Three Years to qualify for the Citizenship out of FOUR.. So you have nothing to fear in stating that your date of return to stay here as the 18th of April 2007. Because you have complied with all of the requirements of the Immigration to stay here and also obtain your Citizenship.

More over they are going to sleep over your application for another year after your submission. So, you will qualify for it with a lot of time to spare.

So, state the 18th of April as the date of stay while filling your application.
So, they will use that day to count your START of the three years.*

Good Luck.

Freddie.

This is not true. Three years - 1065 days, out of 4 years - that is the requirement for citizenship. There is no "continuous" in it.

I believe that the 3 out of 4 year requirement has to be fulfilled as of the day the application for citizenship is signed regardless of how long the process might take after submission. Hope this helps.

This was a first book that I found written for the New Comers and I thought I will include this here for all of those who are going to read this material. It is available in any library to take out and read or buy it for keepsake.
How to survive your First Year: http://www.oupcanada.com/catalog/9780195428919.html

FOR CITIZENSHIP: It says Down load the New Guides here in the body of the letter. So, go ahead and do it and enjoy reading and listening to it.
The latest Guide for those who want to obtain Citizenship:
http://communities.canada.com/ottawacitizen/blogs/thegargoyle/archive/2009/11/12/civics-101-the-new-canadian-citizenship-study-guide.aspx

APNA TORONTO has created a website and also provided to you these materials for you to read and understand. So have a ball with it.

Application Package : http://canadaonline.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&zTi=1&sdn=canadaonline&cdn=newsissues&tm=244&f=00&tt=14&bt=0&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp

See what are all the items you need before applying: http://canadaonline.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&zTi=1&sdn=canadaonline&cdn=newsissues&tm=12&f=00&tt=14&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/adults.asp

In the guide that you will receive or have on hand you will see.....
Look at the symbols provided at each location in the guide. They are :
1) "What you must do to get your application processed"
2) "Important Information that you need to be aware of to avoid delays or other problems"
3) "Where to get more information"

If more than one member of your family is applying for Canadian citizenship, send all the applications together in the same envelope. The applications will be processed together.

If you have children, they also get their citizenship : To apply for Canadian Citizenship for your child: Complete the Application for Canadian Citizenship — Minors (CIT 0003).

Freddie.

Not to confuse you much more, You returned back on the 18th of APRIL 2007. So on the 17th of April 2010 you will have your full THREE Years of qualifying stay here. The days you have over above the three years are from the 17th of April 2010 to current 10th May of 2010 are extra number of days, which will be 23 days. Many a times we do take a vacation or a holiday. You might have taken one also. If the number of days you were away after your landing on 18th of April 2007 and upto now, are more than 23 days, then you should wait till you cover atleast the number of days you were away. If they are less than 23 days, then your application will get through without a hitch. Which means that you will have no problems. They are also asking you to use the calculator that they have provided to you on their website and also obtain a printout and attach it to your application so that they will get to know that you have done your calculations properly and you know all about Citizenship and you will not have any problems after submission of the application.

At the end of my post above I have provided a question and answer PDF and they are for your guidance only. The NEW Booklet that they will be sending you might be slightly different from the previous ones and the Q & A for your test could vary or will have additional materials to study and answer. So, after submitting your application you can prepare for the test with the materials you will receive.

Good Luck to you.

Most of the responders above have not said anything more than what I gave you as my first response. Nor have they explained to you anything more to clear your doubts. So, you be guided accordingly. Also I did not have the need to go through all of what you are going through currently. Hence the explanatory materials to you and those who want to read further are provided to you to get a better grasp of the Citizenship application process.

Freddie.

Freddie.

We did not any vacation/Holiday since 18 April 2007. I would like to seek one more clarification here, i am applying for myself, my wife and kid.

For minors Processing centre is different with different mailing address, should i include all the application in one envelope and send it to adults processing centre or separate for minor.

Thanks again
