As we are in the process of settling down in Markham, I would like your opinions and advice on some of the daily life things:

1. Car to buy : used or new? People say that insurance is much lower on an old car especially with a G2 license. Is that true?
2. Is it possible to get a car loan from a bank without any credit history?
3. Cable/Internet: Which plan of which company is good? Obviously, we would like a few desi channels.

Better buy a used one, you are still in the process of settling down. Don't spend too much money for Cars and transport. You can even use the TTC or public transport, why let your savings take a leak right at the beginning of the process.

Stay away from this shit of loan and credit history, you will get sunk and you would be wondering how to make the next payment. First do you have a Job or not?

A few companies like Bell or Rogers give great deals when you sign up initially, make sure you get a good deal...don't just sign without any promotion

+1 for tungrus reply.
Auto insurance depends on lot more than just for new/used cars.
I take it that you will be landing in summer so you will have a favourable weather to discover your neighbourhood by walk. And off course, you can reasearch depending on your circumstances about the vehicle type.
Bell and Rogers extract a good amount of money for just internet (we pay $35 + tax) and basic channels(NEWS all time)
I am still happy with my laptop and youtube for Indian programs(Not ekta`s dramas and challenging idols):D

Shriya.

35$ for the internet speeds that we get here is not bad, same applies for local phones..

Compare this to india where we would be paying the same amount for crappy speeds and crappy service...

My phone and internet bill used to be around 4000 rs per month..

for 75$ i get phone plus high internet , i say thats not bad..

Unfortunately, no loan without credit history.
