Windows Media Player got corrupted - How to fix it?

I've Windows 7 on my desktop and I accidently installed WMP 11 for Windows XP on it. Now my WMP is corrupted and it wouldn't play. I tried system restore to an earlier date but it fails everytime. Can anyone let me know how to fix this problem without formatting or restoring my machine to factory defaults?

you don't need windows media player.
Try VLC Media player. It plays all video files and audio files and is far better than Windows Media.

Aldo try to install WMP for Windows 7 and see if it fixes the problems.
