Do you know how many ID thefts are done every year in NA? It costs billions of dollars (Which of course is thousands of crores) and it is not a rocket science to stop it. It is the flaw in the system.
India does not have a unique identifier like SIN and credit bureaus where credit history can be checked though they are working on getting both. So it does not have identity theft in NA style but instead papers are forged and other frauds happen.
I wish they don't implement NA style system or at least make it much more secure. But chances are my wish will not be fulfilled.

1. UID (unique ID number) is on the way. Hope it works since Nandan Nilkeni of Infy has worked hard on it.
2. Portability of cell numbers from next month. Hope to see some real competition. We need to switch one of our cell phone service providers from Airtel to some other good one as Airtel charges are getting a bit out of hand.

I thought there is already enough competition in the cellphone industry. I never saw any of my family member in India sticking with one carrier for more than 6 months. They keep changing the carriers like crazy. Too much confusion in the billing cycle and keeping track of the payments. No wonder they keep complaining about the customer service. I see people in India have become more restless than us here.
