Freinds.,

I landed last year and came back to Doha, Qatar. My wife and daughter is still living in Canada and I hope to join them only next year. I would appreciate if someone can advice me regarding the tax laws? I haven't send any money since we landed there to support my family they are managing with watever we took along with us for landing. Please advice.,

1., Do I need to file my tax return this year?

2., Wat about my wife who lives there since May '2010?

Feedback appreciated.

Regards

Mathan

Yes, both of you must file your tax returns for 2010.

Yes, you do, and you need to declare your world income in there.

Freinds.,

Good day. Thanks for the response. Please let me know how I can file the return while living outside Canada? Is there any time frame for filling the returns. Also do I need to declare the savings or earnings in Qatar while filling returns ...please advice.

Regards

As mcg7 has suggested, you can use an online software to do it yourself. alternatively, since your family is in Canada, they can use the services of a Tax Consultant.

Deadline for file 2010 taxes is April 30, 2011. Since April 30, 2011 is a weekend, the last day may be extended to May 2, 2011.

Yes, you have to declare any world income after you became a resident.

No, you do not have to declare any savings.

Friends,

I have landed in Canada in 2009 and finally moving to canada in 2011.
I have a Savings account in Canada and I have transfered some amount there.
Do I also have to care about my returns?

Regards

In order to see that whether you have to file taxes in Canada for this period, you have to determine your Residency status by seeing the type of ties you have with Canada. Please check this http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/cmmn/rsdncy-eng.html from the best source to see if you need to file a tax return or not.

Opening a savings account does constitute a secondary tie but if you do not have a rental lease, a driving license, OHIP card or a home in Canada, your family in Canada or other social ties in Canada, you may not be considered resident for tax purposes and would only have to file your returns when you do your second landing for good.
