Can you provide more details on this statement? Don`t you think conservatives could have a major lawsuit against them if somebody is able to prove that fact?

I would vote for conservatives only because I do not have any other choice - I would not like Ignateiff or Layton as PM.

You know well that it is difficult to PROVE discrimination but it should be easy to "experience" it. I have consistently been arguing on this forum that immigrants have lost focus of the main issue which is well paying job. I am sure you would agree that in Canada well paying job means either Union job or public sector job. I am sure the professionals who have migrated to Canada find all kind of problems in re qualifying here and be part of the "licensed" trade or profession. Apart from that, as I had pointed out earlier, 35% of the jobs are in public sector. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of organizations funded or run by govt money but these jobs are hardly advertised. Unlike India which has UPSC (Union Public Service) exams (with all its imperfections), there is no parallel here. Why would the Govt use my tax money to offer job to connected (read nepotism) people? Now any one can argue like you do that one can file suit for discrimination. However, I would argue that one has to form judgement based on "experience". Try to get in to OPG or Hydro or TTC etc. My humble experience is that there is tremendous nepotism and discrimination, both in recruitment and promotions. Not that I believe that Liberals have a better record. I would , at the time of election, vote out incumbent till a system of fairness and honesty is introduced.

As regards tax policy, I see lot of superfluous discussion on this thread. Many have argued, and correctly that corporate tax increase may drive MNC to other countries. However, "Resource tax" would not. If Govt. increases "Excise" tax on Oil and Mineral resources, MNCs would have to pay as there is tremendous demand for natural resources and they have little option. I am sure that you all are aware that all said and done, Canada still offers better business prospects compared to unreliable Middle east or whimsical Venezuela or unstable Africa. Harpo loses on all these counts.

I would be happy to see Harper back in power with Minority or Liberals with minority or majority. Harper majority would be disaster in true sense for immigrants because of majority of conservative members being anti immigrants. I am little surprised that we are swayed by media stories which are planted as happens in India and the world over. USA and the world is paying price for electing Obama instead of Hillary because of the incessant media hypocrisy. Hope we would go by our "experience" of Harper policies rather than media reports. Ask just ONE question which is fundamental to our prosperity - Are conservative fair to immigrants in providing equal access to public sector jobs? - If your answer is "yes", go wholeheartedly for conservative, If your answer is "No" , vote for opposition. Please do not attack me with arguments that Liberals are no better in this regard, which I admit here but then we kick them out after 4 years. Such voting pattern should be continued till a Govt is installed which provides fair access to taxpayer funded jobs. EQUAL ACCESS TO A WELL PAYING JOB IS MY ONE AND ONLY CRITERIA BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT OPENS DOOR TO A BETTER LIFE.

Good points you make. If Harper's ministers can behave recklesssly in matters concerning personal integrity even when his govt is in minority status, imagine the wrecking they can do when holding majority of the seats.

With regards to employment of desis(or lack of it) in govt sector, this problem has been systemic and has been prevailing for some while under other regimes as well, and the liberals were no exception to the rule.

The way I see it, desis have long missed the bus when it comes to govt hiring. Cuts are the way of the future and we Canadians better brace ourselves for it. Worst hit will be the communities most dependent on govt largesse in the form of public sector employment. Desis won't the ones getting shafted on that count.

I am no fan of Liberals nor their policies. I had good hopes from Paul Martin but I guess he is not charismatic person and lost. In fact till this year, I never voted for Liberal or NDP. I always voted for Conservatives or some independent. However, my point is to play musical chair with political parties. Just kick out the incumbent till they recognize talent of immigrants.

Harper minority has done nothing for immigrants. I am afraid that if he comes back to power with majority, he would really harm immigrants.

Further, contrary to some opinions expressed, Harper is not a true capitalists. Public sector jobs are still going to grow may be not at the same pace. However our share of the pie under Harper majority would be miniscule. The kind of capitalism or free market economy played by politicians in North America is nothing but crony capitalism where the contracts and kickbacks are shared by a select few.

I wish either Harper minority or Liberal rule.

Hmmmmmmmm.........smells trouble.

I heard about this 1st time on 101.3FM with Dr. Lamba raising this issue.

I am wondering, is there anything written in the Canadian Constitution that does not allow anyone the freedom to keep his/her nationality or force someone to accept Canadian nationality?

I find this a the lamest of all the insinuations against patriotism of Mr. Ignatieff.

PS: I am not affiliated to any political party and have voted for all parties in the past (including Mr. Harper). I am still undecided on my vote....but Vote, I will.

this is all horse shit. just stupid propaganda . it is a non issue and just distracts from the real issue.
like the recent fud in the US about Obama's birth place.

i have already stated earlier exactly what i think of the liberals.
but even i consider this type of propaganda a waste of time and distracting.

let's consider the real issue that how incompetent Ignatiev really is and how unachievable and unrealistic his platform is.

anyway this is all a moot issue now given the recent surge of the ndp.
Ignatiev's goose is cooked.
not just cooked, but skewered and seasoned.
he might as well pre-register for the next term at harvard.
his wife can retain her hungarian and british passport, no need to get Canadian citizenship even...goodbye and good riddance for us.

The best outcome of this election will be a secure and stable government which will go to the elections once every 4 years.

seenappa.

Two things that we should look at extremely well when voting this time:

1. Obama won because he gave people some hope after the "nasty" and "very polarized" rule by his republican predecessor. His honeymoon with the Americans is over and it is unlikely that he would win his next term. Jack Layton's campaign has learnt and followed from Obama's campaign (and it has been said by NDP's strategist Brad Lavigne on CBC Politics & CTV Power Play several times in the past). Obama's socialist agenda is very similar to Jack's and according to some of my friends in the US (who were mesmerized by Obama & voted for him earlier), Obama makes a good preacher, but not a good administrator.

2. What is the guarantee that we will have elections once every four years if we send Harper back to rule. He broke his own law of elections every 4 years after 2 years in power when he smelt he could win a majority...eventually which he could not

Anyone who believes that whatever politicians say is gospel....think again!

I consider myself to be as worthy of being a contributing member to Canadian political landscape, irrespective of spending major part of my life out of Canada. Therefore, while voting this Monday, I will be looking at the competence & passion of all the leaders, and above all my MP, not how long they have been out of this country, before deciding who to vote for.

Which economist said that introducing HST will generate employment?
Other than Ontario and British Columbia no other Canadian provinces has HST. Liberals introduced HST saying it will increase employment which is ridiculous. If reducing corporate taxes does not increase employment what will. In USA, states have 0 or very nominal taxes for corporates. During Liberal's time a lot of companies stopped their Canadian operation to start new USA operation because they were getting tax breaks. Few of my friends lost their jobs. All I can say is common citizens like me should never ever vote for the Liberals. Their policies suck whether its immigration or economy.

.

.

Wrong....
ON, BC, QC, NB, NL & NS all have HST

AB is the only place that has GST.

HST was initiated originally by the Liberals in the Atlantic provinces & QC as it was perceived to help businesses in the provinces by eliminating additional reporting and save provinces money by eliminating PST collecting arm. In HST, the Feds collect HST and handover the Provincial portion according to agreed terms to the Province.

HST in ON & BC was pushed by Flaherty against the wishes of the local population. Though Dalton has taken the heat for introducing this in ON, from Tim Hudak of Prov.Conservatives, who is expected to win the next ON Prov elections later this year, when asked whether he would abolish the HST, first sidetracked...and then admitted that he would keep it (Hypocrite!)

Corporate tax (as I have heard) in the US is 20%. Canada has been reducing Corp taxes consistently for the last few years. It did help Canada to become competitive in attracting investment. However, reduction in Corp taxes has not led to lower prices for Canadians as these have not been passed on to the consumers. In fact according to Tax Payers Federation of Canada most Canadian corporations are sitting flush with cash and are neither investing in Canada nor passing savings on to consumers.
