With the elections coming up in October, the battle seems to have heated up, I thought of starting this discussion so that we can share some of our thoughts. It is definitely getting hard to make a choice.

Conservatives- Currently in govt, the performance has not been good, but it is not just the government but the economy as well.

NDP- It has definitely gone ahead in the opinion polls but personally I don't like their policies such as child care plan etc. This is going to cause lot of burden on tax payers or else it will put the govt budget in further deficit

Liberals- Never looked much into them but would like to get insights from others.

- FYI- I just became a Citizen and my knowledge is quite limited at the moment ..so pardon me if some of the facts are wrong here

Thanks for bringing this topic up ...

We discuss a lot on Indian Politics and we need to discuss Canadian politics equally well ...

I am not sure about other issues , pluses and minuses of the parties but I have appreciated the tough no nonsense stance taken by Harper on Islamic Terrorism and sending aid to fight / help in fighting ISIL which is very much needed in today's middle eastern ISIL crisis .

I have always seen that Tom Mulcair has always criticized this and would effectively reverse this trend which is something I consider as irresponsible on Canada's part ...

Needless to mention , the burgeoning Muslim community known to vote on religious lines would vote against Harper and perhaps for NDP.

I do admire Stephen Harper for taking a tough stance on ISIL and Islamic Terrorism .

True, it is importan that we discuss Canadian politics and it is important that we play an active part in the government formation rather than criticizing it later

Yes I do agree with you, but seems like lot of things this time is around the economy bit. Does any one think that NDP or Liberals would have done a better job than Harper? There is lot of Harper bashing going around and people think that any change here would make the economy better. I dont know if there is any other party capable here which can do a better job than Harper as far as economy goes.

Any opinions on this?

This time around, I am more inclined towards Liberals. NDPers have always been pretty vague about their policies, whether Provincial or Federal, so not quite sure about them. Let's see what each of them come up in the next few months.

Conservatives have messed up the budget allocation and followed up with more cuts to the crucial services, i.e. Health, Seniors, Education, Tourism in the past few years. Never quite a fan of their GOP like scare tactics; and bill C-51 sealed their deal pretty much. Was neither supportive of their stance of sending troops for ISIL as well. Israel's blind support is also ticking me off them. Economy wise, they did ok; and could've done a bit more with respect to the aggressive expansion to the Asian market.

Overall still undecided. Need to follow closely.

Yeah I just hope NDP does not come into power as their policies can really hurt us. I dont know but for some reason NDP is rising on the opinion polls.

Yes Vivek, this is surprising to me as well. But, make no mistake, the campaign is still in its infancy right now. Tide normally turns with just one statement, one policy, one promise, and one goof-up during the trail. Besides, we all have seen how these polls have been turning up for the last couple of years. If the Provincial elections and polling in BC, ON, AB are any indication then don't be surprised if the actual Election results are a bit far off than these polls.

By the way, does anyone knows for a fact as to why Media by and large is against Harper? I haven't seen such a negative coverage of any Leader, especially on the Internet.
