Harper action sometime reminds me of Indira Gandhi who will do anything to bring down his opponents. I do not trust this man.
Let's take a look at the two serious contenders for a quick second (Jack Layton is a distant 3rd and no one wants a minority government again.) That leaves us with the Steven harper for Tories and Ignatieff for liberals.
1) My beef with Ignatieff is, he moves back to Canada in 2005, exactly 2 years after I moved to Canada! He is running for the office of prime minister and here I am getting all excited about getting to vote.![]()
2) Ignatieff has lived outside Canada for a good 30 years. Meaning, he has missed the political developments and ground realities in Canada for a good 3 decades. Not healthy.
Perhaps Ignatieff is a nice person and sincere dude. But, how is he qualified to become the Prime minster of Canada, when i am not?![]()
We have a saying, “A known Devil is safer than an unknown devil”.
For all his faults, Harper is the safest bet at the moment.

seenappa.
I take your example....Seenappa, you are smart guy, honest, sincere....so this means you are not eligible to be Prime Minister of Canada or you can not run in an election because you have been here for 7 years........that does not sound reasonable to me.....should I term you as unknown devil or person without any canadian experience.
You are talking just like you and I was treated when we landed in this country....you do not have Canadian experience or any Canadian education...
I would prefer a minority government because you get best out these vultures.
I absolutely believe that a minority Conservative Govt is the best. Harper is control freak and does not allow his ministers to even speak to media. He started courting minorities just because of election (which is a good thing) and if he gets majority , we are certainly in for raw deal

Don’t vote Conservative, newcomers urged...the star
In an unusual move, a group of Canadian lawyers and legal academics are urging voters not to support the Conservative Party in the May 2 election.

Why minority? Let him give a chance to work independently....So far he worked in minority and not able to provide his best..
I don't like the way Liberals spent taxpayers dollars for so called newcomers programs without any positive results. Harper tried to get control over the blind wastage of dollars behind the settlement programs for newcomers. Let him do some more and effective.

The article was written by immigration reporter.
Moreover, lawyers and legal academics are urging voters means... they are urging for their vasted interests.
Immigration lawyers making millions just to fill their pockets at the cost of taxpayers hard earned dollars.

Might just want to take some time to read this.

The Law Commission of Canada was created by an Act of Parliament in 1997. It worked very well. It kept an eye in a sort-of avuncular way, on necessary reforms of the law, including election law.
The Commission was created by an Act of Parliament, and any government wanting to shut it down should have been up-front about it. It should h...ave come to Parliament with a Bill to rescind The Law Commission of Canada Act. That’s what any of our 21 previous Prime Ministers would have done.
But to Mr. Harper, Parliament is an inconvenience. Somebody might ask “Why are you doing this?” But he didn’t want to go through all that Parliamentary trouble; so, rather than proposing the abolition of the Commission (a proposal about which there would have been pretty fierce debate on all sides), they just eliminated all funding for it in the federal budget. Governments can do that. Poof – no Law Commission.

Then there was the Court Challenges Programme, set up in 1994, which was the means by which a bit of legal help could be provided to a private individual or small organization who didn’t have a lot of money, and who was taking on, or being taken on by, the Government of Canada. It leveled the legal playing field a bit. It was a perfec...t example of fundamental Canadian fairness.
In other words, if you weren’t rich, and if you were taking on or being taken on by the Feds, you might have had a chance. But Mr. Harper doesn’t like being questioned, let alone challenged. It’s so inconvenient! Solution? Quietly announce that the Court Challenges Programme is being, er, discontinued. Poof – no Court Challenges Programme – no court challenges.

The Coordination of Access to Information Request System (CAIRS) was created (by a Progressive-Conservative government) in 1989 so that departments of government could harmonize their responses to access-to-information requests that might need multi-departmental responses.
Well, if you’re running a closed-door government, that’s not a good idea, is it? So,
as a Treasury Board official explained to the Canadian Press, CAIRS was killed by the Harper government because “extensive” consultations showed it wasn’t valued by government departments.
