Economies that recovered first were resource based with a democracy namely Canada and Australia. I would not give credit to Harper for managing economy. All that boils down is to good governance and in which case Harper does not get any marks. His Mps and confidants like Helena, Montreal MP who was foreign minister and Bruce are linked to hookers, non transparent defence deals and absolutely autocratic style of governance has reduced a talented person like Peter Mckay to dummies. Visible minorities are getting a very rough deal. 35% of Canadian jobs are in Govt/ public sector. For immigrants this is most important as in private sector, latent racism is pervasive.
Of course, I do not consider Iggy a suitable replacement. The best scenario would be Harper back in power with MINORITY
It is human nature to experiment and learn. We, sometimes have to experience the experiment.
You have to be “insider” in the sense that you have to be in position that provides glimpses on working of Tories and Harper. It is baloney to believe media (which is corrupt and has sold soul to Satan for Greenbacks). When you closely watch the waste, nepotism, corruption, inefficiency and arrogance of Tories, your opinion would change.
Over the years I have maintained one consistent stand; Taxpayer funded jobs should be accessible equally to every one. Unfortunately, more than 90% are never advertised or filled by insiders. Haper’s record is dismal on this count and while he has supposedly good management of economy (I do not believe this crap), he has shut the doors to govt jobs for immigrants. We have to bring balance. This time ABC (Anybody But Conservative)
Good points from everyone. In addition to food and shelter, safety and protection of Canadians is at the top of my list.
I believe Mr. Harper has done above par job in keeping the terrorists and their sympathizers out of Canada. Some notables being:
a) Increased immigration time for “some” countries categorized as “dangerous”, which enables the security agencies to do a thorough check on their backgrounds.
b) North American perimeter fencing plan, which will alert us the moment a terror suspect enters Canada(unfortunately, liberals have already turned Canada into a free-for-all canukistan.)
c) Cut funding for terror groups like kairos, Palestinian-Hamas, Canadian Arab federations etc.
d) Dealing firmly with khader, the child-terrorist.
Mr. Harper has done far better job than liberals ever have.
Don’t believe me? Read the below column in Toronto star by Haroon Siddiqui, (Toronto's Mullah with the pen) who hates Steven harper’s guts.

I would vote for Steven Harper just to spite Siddiqui.
Cheers

I have a hard time imagining Iggy as Canada's PM. And Layton seems all rhetoric.
A conservative majority at this point seems to be the best option. And while Harper's policies might not be all immigrant friendly, the fact remains that Canada has withstood the global recession much better than most other countries. Seems to be a good enough reason to vote Tory, this is not a time to be taking chances with others.
