Dear Sir/ Madam,

I went to VFS office as my passport will be expired very soon. I am very grateful to The Indian consulate general and The VFS office staff that I learn new definitions from them today. One is Renewal and other is New Passport. Up to now I thought that renewal means when something expires, by taking fees they give us new thing, and New Passport means when you first apply for passport they give us new passport. But thanks to the VFS authorized by Indian Consulate General, after spending 2 to 3 hours to just know that renewal means issue of new booklet. How good Indian Consulate to us which educates Indian community in living in GTA. Thank you very much.

I have one question to you.

· What will you do when your driving license is expire?

· Which term you use to give the answer: Renewal or New Card???

I am totally sure that no one of you will give answer to me. I thought my English is poor. If you really want to help us specify what renewal means, what new booklet means, and what new passport means.

I thought Indian Consulate outsources to VFS to make process fast, but it looks like they are spending 1 to 2 hours for fun. Some people working there look like drunk or just came from sleep. I am not allowed to take video inside otherwise I will show you the full scenario of the VFS Office. I just wonder how all the applicants (I do not know the reason why they are there) made mistake in their forms, all means all, not any single person without any mistake went out of the VFS office. This looks like only educated person working are in Indian consulate and in VFS office. Other people even do not know how to feel the application form when they do not know the real meaning between New Passport and New Booklet.

One more question: Why they keep PR Card with them for passport renewal, sorry, sorry, for new booklet?

Who is responsible if PR Card is lost? VFS or Indian Consulate?

If you want to know more reactions from Indian about Indian Consulate and VFS Authorities visit CanadianDesi.com forums.

The biggest question is that why should we pay $ 20.00 to VFS. What is that for?

I am waiting for your positive response.

As I am sending this email to Information act to India, India today news channel, CP24 Canada, and I will post this email on Canadian Desi and all forums in Canada to create group that will oppose the payment of service fees to VFS and the rude behavior from VFS officers.

Regards,

Mani Ratnam

I hope you paid nothing for your PR application, Passport, driving license, Number plates etc . I never realized that all these are free here in North America and paid fee for all these services.

Yeah. India should provide all these services for free. All the VFS services provided to NRI's (or aspiring NRI's) should be taxed to a school teacher/Postman/Bus driver/Municipal worker in India. Asking us to pay $20 is too much.

Hi,
I love India and love it even more while I'm away and appreciated it's many facets. But when it comes to anything to do with govt. machinery- it sucks at the least. I went to apply for OCI in Ottawa VFS office today, and I really hope once that process is finished I will have bare minimum interaction with these guys. The VFS office and the process is just to make things difficult for people. While my application was accepted I saw many people returned for something or other, even for my application the lady looked unsure/under confident and checked the same things a few times- this clearly suggest they are perhaps operating in fear. At the same time I over heard an older couple who came to Canada in 60s and did not have their Passport, although the VFS lady tried to help her, but they were asked to do things on-line, now how is that fare/inclusive....
Another thing, why do they need all sorts of ORIGINALS such as Landing paper, Citizenship certificate and so on.... why not an official (VFS) sees the original and attest as seen the Original, very valid question; what will happen if misplaced/ why take added responsibility- especially that Govt. of Canada has put due diligence in granting Citizenship..
Seriously, I feel sorry and sad in defending when a non- Indian Canadian talks about their experience with Visa and feel ridiculous and illogical. All this comes with a price too- what is the purpose/ high fee for Surrender certificate- what is the reasoning given for that cost....
Anyways no point ranting about illogical fools....
Cheerz~K

I had a similar experience when I went to renew my wife's passport in Brampton, after sitting there for almost two hours my number was displayed . Once I gave in my application which was accompanied with the checklist they asked me for proof of residence like a hydro whcih is not on the checklist.
:cuss: real assholes the bunch of them

On the contrary to your experience.

We are a family of 4. We got our surrender certificate within just about 10 days.
Then we applied for our OCI through Brampton VFS and got everything done in 22 days.

I did have a complexity in the process with regards to the two middle name issue but here is what I learnt, called the VFS many times in a span of two days spoke with different agent and then experienced managers finally to sump up the process to fill the gap.

My suggestion to anyone approaching VFS, phone them, clarify everything in detail including the hours you need to come in for your specific service (against the hours of operation).

Our experience at the VFS office in Toronto was not bad either. Just that the weekend prior was a holiday and so the office was really crowded. Took us almost 2 hours for our number to be called. Main reason being, most people came with documents and forms incorrectly filled and the people at the counter had to literally explain to them(in some cases actually write down) what to bring along the next time. Infact, there was this man right next to us who kept criticizing the people who fill their documents incorrectly and cause a waste of time. But when it was his turn to submit, his documentation prep was as bad as the rest of them.
However, I must say, that every token that was handed out was dealt with, though it was way past their closing hours.
