Dear all
I would be grateful to this forum for some information about Waterloo area.Both me and my wife are physicians.I am a Pediatrician and my wife is a Family Phyisician.At present we are in USA but we had our interviews some time ago and we both have been offered postions in the Waterloo area.How is Waterloo in terms of schools,community and amenities? .Also we have some interviews coming up in Scarborough(Toronto) but I personally liked Waterloo.We did visit the area during the interview but we just stayed there very briefly and not long enough to get the feel of the place.Any info is welcome

hi,
I used to live in Waterloo. It is a small place.
It is like 5 mins. to the village from there. So I am not sure if you will like the place.
Indians are seen like a new breed out there as the people have not seem many immigrants (non white) before. Very inexpensive place and very peaceful. Schools are nice and decent people study there.
Toronto is the New York of Canada. Scarborough has a lot of sri lankan tamils, blacks and gujju's there. Public shools will have students whose parents are drunkards/welfare recipients to doctors/CEO's. It will be less pronounced in areas like Waterloo who sometime donot even speak bad words.
Your choice.

prefer Waterloo as compared to Scarborough, if you have job there.

if you want to see desis around you , then toronto is the place for you.

Waterloo is way better in terms of quality of life provided you get a job here.

Toronto area is a huge city with a lot of opportunities but comes with the penalties and advantages of living in a big city. There are some good neighborhoods in GTA and Mississauga.

Thanks everybody for replying.We do have jobs in Waterloo but we were wondering about Desicommunity , Indian music classes and groceries in the waterloo area.After our interviews we went to the temple in Kitchener but did not meet many desis there since it was a working day.
Do u know if there any areas in Waterloo/Kitchener with Indian community around?

I have lived in Waterloo. Nice area if you are either visiting or living there for a short duration of time. More than one year---you will go mental with boredom if you cannot remain isolated from desi community.

If you want peace and quiet and at the same time excitement of a mega city, you could always live in the burbs and commute to Toronto(which by itself is a relatively safe and peaceful city in comparison to other NA cities)
