If you would have been following the current US republican caucuses, you'll find some interesting rhetoric. The vote base has been clearly marked into evangelicals, born again christians and they are all having a say on the candidate. These groups are all voting as a block and you'll find the two guys who are not talking religion but more of economics - Ron Paul and Huntsman are not getting their votes, while guys like Romney or Santorum are obtaining their votes in block.

The main issue these groups are putting forward is that they are pulling up their constitution which declares their country as one nation under god and interpret is as the Christian God or the trinity of the father, son and holy spirit. This basically comes down to JESUS Christ.

In 2012 this kind of rhetoric has started in USA and we have this murmur already in Canada under the current conservative leaders.

When RSS puts forward an idea that even though India might be a secular country we need to acknowledge our hindu identity as all our christians and muslim brothers have converted from hinduism at some point of time. This is basically acknowledging the hindu culture in which the country exists. This is similar to what these US evangelical vote banks are talking. In India there is an opposition to this by many saying that RSS has to be banned as it is inciting religious feelings. If you talk to anybody outside India they will refer to us as from Hindustan and not INDIA. This is particular to people from Pakistan. When our neighbors themselves address us as hindustani why shouldn't we acknowledge it as our origin.

The reason I'm putting forward this discussion is that of late I'm getting to meet many an evangelicals who always end up saying do not follow false gods but only the true saviour Jesus Christ.

Shouldn't the Indian hindu vote bank be aware of the US politics and the dynamics so that it can learn a lesson from the same. As desis we like to follow and ape the stuff going on in US shouldn't we give it a thought?.
