This poor guy was not able to win or draw just 54 matches in his career of 188 matches that is 28% percent and getting criticized
No matter how you measure him, he would be still great.

Also note, during early/mid nineties the cricket ball was changed to swing less so as to make it batsman friendly. As were the pitches made slower and batsman friendly. So cricket has had its own version of inflation.![]()
I don't understand why BCCI lacks the guts to kick Sachin out?
Another person who is in desperate need retirement - Amitabh Bachhan. Wait, actually the entire Bachhan clan needs to retire and give us a respite.
Sachin's Public Relations Office must really working overtime for people nook and corner of the world rooting for him, whether he really deserves his place i.e., after 2010.
Let us take test cricket which is the ultimate "test".
All players have their highs and lows. Let us take only Indian players first. Gavaskar was the highest run getter when he quit. But it didn't mean that he wanted to be around or retained for ever.
Mohd Azharuddin scored 3 consecutive centuries on his debut.
Dilip Vengsarkar scored a century every time he played at Lord's.
Mohinder's defiance of fiery fast bowling is legend.
Vishy's 97 not out against WI is probably the best Indian batsman's innings.
One of the under rated and dropped test opening bastman Sadagoppan Ramesh, as late as 1998 had an average of close to 100 from his first 4 test matches.
All that doesn't mean that they should be around for ever, or employed a Public Relations Department to take care of their career through media.
Statistics are worth a paise, when we really want to build a team that will win matches and that can be done only through the study of their performances during the last 6 months (considering the no. of matches the players play these days).
When people are unjustifiably partial towards Sachin, we really want to study his record, not to bring him down or anything like that, but only for the sake of the team that calls itself "India".
Please without bias look at the following test match figures for the 1st and 4th innings for Sachin
Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave 100 50 0
87 87 6 5492 241*67.8 20 19 3
69 56 15 1563 136 38.12 3 7 3
Why should the average drop so drastically from 67.8 to 38.12 if he is really a great player.
For Sir Viv Richards the average comes down from 53.95 to only 47.94, which means he was more consistent and more dependable during his playing days. Also Viv did not play much cricket against countries like Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. If we compare that also we may get a different picture. He also did not wear helmet to play fast bowlers.

Thanks for pointing to the error about Ramesh's debut as 1999 instead of 1998. He had scores of 43, 5, 60, 96, 79, 40, 143,30 in his first 4 matches. In his last test he scored 46 and 55 and opening partnership of 97 and 107. But that was not good enough to pick him again for a test.
We are very happy about dropping Ramesh and picking a better player. But the same objectivity should be carried and consistency must be maintained towards all players.
Also there is no answer about Sachin's poor 4th innings test average of 38 i.e., when the team is dependent on him totally, Compared to double the figure if is a 1st test innings. That 38 also must be built around 2nd grade teams like Zimbabwe or Bangladesh and not against SA of Australia.
Also Sachin's dismal performance is one of reasons for India's failure in England and Australia. He is past his prime and needs to be dropped without attaching any sentiments. The same fate had happened to greats like Sobers.
