Hi

Trying to check on experiences with applying for Supervisa -- apologies in case I am duplicating an earlier post
1) any tips on which insurance companies provide medical insurance for persons over 85 ? I am applying for this for my parents - my father is over 85.
2) Eventhough, I want to apply now, the travel dates are not decided - can i take the insurance for applying the visa - and cancel after the visa (and retake at the time of travel?) Will i get a refund in case of cancellations.
3) What are the current time lines for processing the supervisa ?
Thanks
Prasad

Just google supervisa insurance and a number of links come up on the first page for quotes and information about insurance coverages available.

Call these companies for quotes, however, just make sure that you ask for an insurance policy with a clause that provides for a full refund in case the visa is not approved or if the visitor does not stay here for the full one or two years.

As per an article that appeared in the Toronto Star today that you may want to read, the statistics so far for the Super Visa show that 23 percent of the cases have been refused so far. Following is the link to the article:

Hi Prasad,

By now you've probably already dealt with the super visa application and it's requirements. But you've asked a good question about buying a policy, and then cancelling it after approval, so I thought I'd add my comments.

You can get a quote to see what you policy options would be by visiting a comparable quote travel insurance website like BestQuote:
http://www.bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/parent-and-grandparent-super-visa-health-insurance

I know that there is one more insurance company entering the fray, and they'll also be hosted on the BestQuote website shortly after May 3, 2012 when the offical release will be made. BestQuote already makes available (free instant online quotes) more companies than other comparable websites, and they also have other companies and policy options not online that could be helpful for for age 85plus.

The answer to your question is Yes. It is possible to buy (for example), a policy that is low cost, for the purposes of the application, and then to cancel the policy after the super visa has been issued. You'll want to avoid the 'TU Platinum policy, as it charges a $250 admin fee to do so if no proof of the visa being denied can be shown. Most companies will not charge for a cancellation before the effective date.
You can then purchase another policy (even from a different company) before your dad arrives in Canada (proof of insurance required by border official).
