Let me share my personal experience. My neighbor’s son with 4-5 other kids started paying BB on shared driveway a few years back during summers and it becomes a daily routine from 8 am to 10 pm – continuously 7 days a week. Slowly the kids from the other street also started joining them. They ruined the flower bed of my front, hit at numerous places on my car and damaged few planters. After few months, I have asked the father of the child if they can move the BB net as they are continuously trespassing my property, casing damages and creating a continuous noise nuisance. He said that he cannot stop his son or any other kid and I have to live with it.

One day, I went to the police station and explained my situation. The officer has asked me to provide the proofs that they are trespassing and damaging my property. I have installed a video camera and started recording. Took out few shots where they damaged the flowers/planters and hit my car and printed them out. After getting those pictures, the office visited the neighbor and simply asked to remove the BB net immediately. The neighbor moved the net on the street – in front of their curb. Next day, the city official came and pickup the net as it was on city curb side.

The police office also suggested me to put up a fence in between and to keep it 3 feet in height – as per city law. Next summer, when I needed to pave my side of the driveway, I put up poles to clearly divide the drive way but don’t feel any requirement to put the fence on. Problem solved.

thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions...i appreciate your help. my son plays for 45 mins or so in the evenin with 2-3 friends. he likes to go to the park and play there only, but its just that so many uni going guys are playing there and these small kids dont get their turn. our bb net is on our side of the house and is not the middle of the drive way too. and the ball has not touched his car or anything else on their side even once. as bb net is on our side of house( corner). our neighbour is polish and he is a racist person. if my son plays with our polish kids|( other side neighbour), he has no prob. but if he plays with any indian or black kids, he starts shouting. its our drive way, and if our child cannot play there whats use of buying the house? better live in a condo only... city rule is that there should be no noise from 11pm- 7am... he plays so loud music in his house, that we cannot watch the television, but thats fine then...we already told him that we are going to send him a legal notice for this and have already informed the police too..he is quiet now..his grandson plays in his drive way, then there is no prob.. just for any asian or black kid, he has prob....8-9 months kids are inside the house only. they get only 4-5 months to play outside.. if they will not play at this age, when they will? his other side neighbour is black and his son plays bb with 20 of his friends. that noise does not annoy him as if he will say one word to them they will say 100 to them as they are all high school kids. my son has not done any damage to his property or his car. if other neighbour in the street plays loud fast music, that one doesnt annoy him as he likes music. everyone has their own likes and dislike. this is canada. if you get scared of ppl, they will eat you up...speak up for yourself....(sometimes i wonder as if he has not played anytime outside in his childhood:)

There is law and order - but that should be the last options cause its time consuming.

Solve with communication: Find out the reason WHY your neighbor acting like Jurk

It must be something that is bothering him, you need to talk to him to find out instead of escalating. - may be he have any previous bad experience or could be any other reason.

Try to break ICE by communication , go on walk or coffee to make each other conformable - fighting will not take us anywhere since you will be living there so u also need peace -

don't let your EGO ruin the peace

NOTE: talk to should continue - but also keep a diary and note everything miss-behavior from him ( by date and time) - it will help you incase needed

Ur problem is minor compare to others facing in world - so dont stress to much - consider your self lucky to not have more problems

good luck

It takes two to tango :)...;)
It is really not a good idea to put a loop in driveway if you are living in a semi. My neighbour's son had put one on curb and when all the kids around the neighbourhood gathered the ball kept hitting the van. Although the kids were apologetic and stuff but it kept happening. Well I did not scream on the boys or neighbours but he was decent enough to remove it on his own once he realized the issue.
I am sure there are some jerks out there but when living in semi/towns you need to work issues with neighbours.

I face exactly the same situation on my semi-detached shared driveway (Mississauga), kids won't listen and surprisingly the kid's father also do not care despite of my multiple complains to the kid's parents that playing BB is creating a nuisance and very likely of ball hitting my parked cars (on my half of the driveway). Exactly got the same answer that I cannot stop his son from playing BB on the driveway. Can you imagine, on the contrary they ask me to park my cars on the street. Despite of being an educated person, unfortunately the neighbor behaves like an absolute jerk, a perfect example of bad neighbour. I never contacted the city/police so far however looking at your case's outcome it certainly makes so much sense to go that way to resolve the problem.
