Hi,

I am looking to buy a used Toyota Matrix, 2009 onwards. Since, I am new to GTA I don't know much what is the good practice to buy a used car here. I haven't had much luck with Kijiji and Autotrader as well. Would it be reasonable to go directly to some Authorized Toyota dealer? Are they trustworthy? Does someone here owns one and can guide me to the right direction vis-a-vis this car?

In general, I would like to know the best possible strategy to find a good deal in a short time. Have already spent close to 3 weeks without any luck; getting around GTA is time consuming when lumping on the public transit anyway.

Thanks in advance for all your tips.

Don't buy a used car in haste ... We do have some excellent buying tips on some sticky threads ... I will try & paste the links here ...

My advice is - better buy from the owner ( best if he is original ) ...this way you can be sure about the history of the car to an extent ...

And get it inspected from a trustworthy mechanic ... no compromise on that .. this way you can reasonable precautions against future breakdowns ...

Don't mind paying 1 - 2K more for a better vehicle with lesser kms .... Labor & repairs are expensive here .

Corolla is better than Matrix in my opinion ....

I thought that the Toyota Matrix was wrought with problem and that the model in general was a failure model.
I would tend to agree with Fido that Corolla is a better option.
Ford Focus is also a good choice. Low price with low maintenance and a great interior.
I rest my case.

Peace

I have sent you a message; please have a look.

That's right. I love this car, man! However, I don't know for some reason I don't see it on the GTA roads as much as in Vancouver.

Besides, you can't beat its spaciousness (100% folded seats for cargo) and sporty look, especially 2009 onwards models. Agree, you can get somewhat similar in other models/makes but then THEY ARE NOT TOYOTA.

And, who says it's a failure? Far from it. It's got the same engine as Corolla, and hence the effeciency is at par.

I suspect. However, can you please substantiate with any official link. I mentioned 'official' because on the internet you will get a load of hits even if you type 'problems with Corolla'.

As per this site, Matrix has the lower number of official recalls and problems as compared to Corolla:

So, any other company link or news release would be welcomed.

Thank you.

May be its a personal thing .. I drive a Corolla ..When I drove a Matrix the other day , contrary to my expectation , it gave me a feeling of a sub compact .... which the Corolla does not ....... But may be its just me so ignore my posts in this regard ...

Matrix also came out as a sister car - Pontiac Vibe ... You might wish to check out for that also ....
