Friends,

My 3 1/2 yr old Corolla requires brake service. The brakes squeak a little bit. On my last visit to a Toyota dealer for an oil change, they inspected the brakes and they were ok however they recommended 4WD brake service. The dealer wanted something like $175 which I thought was excessive for just brake service. Can anyone recommend a "good/honest" Toyota dealer in GTA (Mississauga/Brampton/Toronto etc) and advise what is a good price for brake service? Does brake service eliminate the squeaking? Thanks.

would you please describe more about 4WD brake service what is the meaning of that?

What is the mileage on your car right now?

Normally service will help to eliminate problem, but if your rotors are scored/ rusted and pads are worn out OR Rear drum is rusted and Brake shoe are worn than may it needs to machine rotors and replace pads or machine drum and repalce shoe as well (Depends on mileage and condition of brakes).

Service brakes are keep your brake calipers, pin, sliders, springs and brake Mechanism in normal function condition.

IMO, always do brake service before winter like in Oct-Nov and after winter around April -may to keep your brakes in good condition. b'cos during winter time too keep roads clean, Municipality always puts a lots of Salt on road which causing this kind of problems.

Normally dealer charges for brake service both front and rear around $150 + tax. Go to local mechanic at Wolfdale area (Mavis and Dundas) there are lots of local mechanics, will do your work with cheaper price.

2 cents from myside.......hope will help you a little bit.

cheers...

Hi thanks for your advice.

By 4WD, I actually meant four wheel brake service, meaning service for front wheels as well as rear wheels.

The mileage on my vehicle is about 46000 kms, it's not that high. At the time of purchase, vehicle was brand new. I am a careful driver and I do not slam my brakes, so don't understand why brakes would squeak so soon. On my last visit to a Toyota dealer in Scarborough, they did a brake inspection and concluded that brakes/pads etc were all fine but were dirty and they recommended four wheel brake service. I declined because the dealer tried to make some money off me by also recommending certain fluid changes (like transmission / steering / etc) that were not required this early as per Toyota's manual.

Since then, I called a few Toyota dealers and prices for brake service vary from dealer to dealer. I have another two years extended warranty on my vehicle. If I go to a local mechanic for brake service, will it void the warranty? Do you know any specific good mechanic in Mavis/Dundas area?

Thanks.

As i mentioned, Brake service definately help to reduce or eliminate sqauking noise. Nomrally charges would be around $150 + tax for both brake services. FYI - Extended warranty doesn't cover brake services or wear and tear items like, oils, tires, brake pads, bulbs, etc...

if you do outside work, your warranty will NOT void, until if your local mechanic broken something in car and than afterwards you take car to dealer than they would'nt cover under warranty,

BTW, you are worry about brakes so nothing related to the warrany as per my opinion. For mechanic information pls see your PM.

Normally rec. to change fluids are as below:

Transmission Fluid - every 48,000 km or 24 months

Engine coolant and brake fluid - normally 72,000 kms or 36 months

Engile oil - every 6000 to 8000 kms or 3-4 months.

Just for your information, call one of the dealer, they will perform good work compare to a local mechanic, i know it will cost little more but peacefully you can drive your car after work done and if any problem you can go back to dealership and they will do work again for free too.;)

P.S. : I am not a mechnic or neither i have a Mechanical Shop

best of luck
