As far as I know, Ontario health service OHIP does not cover new immigrants for the first three months of their residency in the province of Ontario, hence, they recommend to get private health insurance coverage. http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/" target="_blank">http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/</a>
Has anyone used / bought private insurance for first three months ?
What are the choices ?
What is the cost ? Which company you used ?
How is your feedback with the insurance company ?
Please correct / guide me.

Well most of the people may not take it in the first 3 months considering they overall health history. If you are young and hardly get sick they tend not to have insurance during this period. I have met many people like that.

If it is other way round then may be someone has bought which you might not find much here, I guess.

My 2 cents: Google private insurance companies wherever you living, check their pricing, coverage, etc that you wanted to know. Then you can research about that insurance company i.e. feedback, etc that fulfill your needs.

Else you can buy from back-home before you fly, that is the best option you can do. I did same when I came here.

Really ??
Thanks.. but your reply still does not answer my question. I asked for feedbacks of people if they have had any insurance. I know lot of people do not get health insurance for the first three months, that is not what I am interested into.

Well I gave you my 2 cents: take it or leave if you can't find anything in what I said. This forum is still for general public.

I too have a question relating to Health Insurance Care during the first three months of landing. I am landing in Vancouver in another couple of months. I am a Returning Resident, since like many others, I had done the initial landing in Toronto a couple of years ago, and had returned to India to wind up my affairs here and am now relocating permanently to Vancouver.

Now here is my Dilema. As I was getting ready to relocate, I was hospitalized and had to be put on Dialysis, which I now undergo three times a week. When I land in Vancover, there will be a waiting period of almost three months before the BC Health Care plans kicks in, while I have to undergo Dialysis from day one. So what are the options available to me? I know there is a provision for waiver of the waiting period in deserving cases. How do I request for this waiver? If I have to reach Vancouver, and apply for the waiver in the normal course, how do I get the services in the meantime? I understand that the cost of Dialysis is prohibitive in Canada, and paying for the same while waiting for the waiver from my pocket seems to be impractical becasue of the cost involved. And what if they turn down my request after I have paid for all the sessions out of my pocket?

Any suggestions, especially from CDs who have first hand knowledge about such situations, are highly welcome.
