Thanks DSD & Crish..
If i take fully furnished apartment/walk-in basement do we get any basic utensils or do we need to get it from India or can we buy it in Canada depending on our needs? How did you all manage when you first went to Canada.
you should bring some kitchen utensils like pressure cooker , Roti roller , etc.. Most of the items are available . Just check with your wife if she is comfortable with certian things , should bring it with you. In furnished basement you will find microwave , freeze , cooking range or hot plate , dish washer.
In my case I bring above mentioned things and once I bought my own condo I bring cargo from india which costs Rs.275/kg .
Just check / search previous posts on CD about list / and items to be follow . Once you land first time to canada you must submit this list to custom ... items you bring with you and items to be follow in future . Just get it stamped at airport custom when u arrive and keep it safe with you for future if you plan to bring cargo.

I bought following:
a) Chakla / Belan
b) Pressure Cooker (with flat base)
c) Tawa (with flat base)
d) Masala box (which has sections for different masala)
e) Grater
f) Kadchi
I would also suggest that bring steel glass / plates, if you want to avoid plastic for your daughter. Here either you get glass / bone china or microwavable plastic, I live in NS and found steel stuff costly. If you make idli then idli stand, in case you are migrating to Canada on PR then bring your home stuff through shipment.
Also bring, grocery supplies like dal / jeera / masala etc... to last few weeks. It makes it easy to get you started, if you do not have a support system in Calgary.
With regards to clothes, I would say buy it here. I found that my T-shirts faded in the dryer here, I only get jeans from India since I find it fits better for me. Don't buy boots from India, I made the mistake; thinking I will need it for winter but the ones from India are not that warm. Same goes for Jackets, your winter jackets (I am from Punjab) should last you in spring.
When altering the jeans, keep it 1/2 inch long it shrinks here in the dryer.
Rest you find everything in Canada, so even if you forget something you can always get it here.
Thank You so much Crish & DSD for taking time and providing the detailed information
Hi All,
I have seen that weather is normally in - degree centigrade in Calgary, so will it cause any problem to my 8 months kid. Can we get adjusted to this weather easily. What precautionary measure do we need to take to survive in this weather.
Regards,
Anand.
As I said earlier that by the time you will get adjusted with this weather . Mostly you will work in office so no problem at all . If you plan to stay in basement then check that there is separate heating arrangement & control for basement temperature . For your kid check with pediatric in india and bring those medicines with prescriptions , Also bring some moisturizers for your kid as weather will be dry in winter . Any how winter is going to be finish by April so If you are coming after April then no worry . Also bring lots of clothers for your kid as clothes for kids are costly and some time difficult find of our choice.
