smiley,
Bring some sweaters, jackets, shawls, mitts and whatever that will keep your friend warm and comfortable indoors and out. Canada is an ice box in the winter. Bring a nice and LIGHT WINTER Jacket. The rest of the items are available in plenty.
It will take your friend a week or so to settle down and locate where he can find all of the the items, that he will need after settling down.
After landing he can use the telephone directory to find the nearest location of a store that he can walk to and carry his purchases home after he decides upon a location to settle down. Lugging things at a time of shifting in the winter is not an easy joke.

We do not know if your friend is coming alone or with the family? You can go through the website and see the past responses in the thread. I know your friend doesn't have much time at that end and want to do most of what he wants to complete and find it difficult at the last minute. I can see you are also on the edge.

Here is one of the links in which I posted with a small cross section of the market and the current costs etc.,. They are still the same and you can update the same for the other desi's who will be coming here, after your friend keeps a record of things that he will buy doing due comparion. This is for the GTA location here in Toronto.

Safe trip and Bon Voyage to your friend.

Freddie.

I am currently in Delhi on Vacation and when I compare PRICE and QUALITY I find Toronto is a much better place to buy MOST of the things ...
When we bought things from India we always ended up with surplus items imagining that we MIGHT need someday ...Whereas when buying in Toronto one can buy what is required ..This way we saved a BIT money ..
All the best for your future ...
Ashwani

P.S: So far we have shortlisted pressure cooker and some traditional clothes to be carried from India ...

What AshwaniG said is 100% correct.
Many people buy from India and regret later.
