A major financial company is close to offer a position in New York. As I quit my job on a personal commitment few months back, just about a month came back to the Job hunt front a month.
Employes in GTA have shown interest too.

At the crossroads now, whether to focus on pursuing New York (Connecticut actually) opportunity who is acting fast to bring me on board or focus on GTA. Total compensation given the current exchange rate exceeds at least 30-35%.

P.S, I've downsized my already by moving to an apartment with my family for the same personal reason expressed above. If that makes my move easier.

Well, you are in now middle of it, having downsized, having dreamt , and having tampered with the life of a decade, so do not look back , I would suggest. pass thru the cross roads.. CT ( I lived there) offers city as well as country side flavor being in vicinity of NY and still at outskirts of hustle bustle..
I am sure there are better places but job will take you there..

As I read somewhere ... Weak never started and strong ones arrived :-) ..

I also have a hunch that in some years you will return.

I would say go ahead since you have already wished for it & you are getting a good opportunity.

How about the move and the related costs ? Is it advisable to move your furniture and belongings through a mover or sell them here and buy them there ?

Do employers provide relocation expenses ?

One more q - renting an apartment vs living / owning your own house - is that a deciding factor for the TN Officer at the border .

The decision to move furniture depends on the total value of existing furniture. Most employers should provide relocation expenses - in the range of 5000 to 10000. Quite often it is a fixed amount and quite often you have to go with their preferred mover and how the receipts.

I prefer moving furniture for a simple reason that, as soon as you land to a new area, you immediately need to go for furniture hunting and most often you will not get a good deal when you buy something when you need it.

The third option is to use U-Haul or U-Pack. The U-Haul is better but only thing you need to arrange for your car or tow with the U-Haul track. The best part of U-Haul is everything is with you and as soon as reach to your home, you are ready to go.

It is not that hard to drive even a largest U-Haul truck.

You mean having a house in Canada v/s having an apartment? I don't think it does matter a lot, but having a house does mean you are planning to return to Canada upon expiry of the TN, so it should have some weight.

Generally, the TN application process starts with verifying your job position/Title and your relevant education. If these are in order, you get your TN.

The process most likely ends in TN rejection if the officer gets into verifying your Canadian ties.
