An update, got an offer in paper from the US employer (contingent upon background checks, drug test etc.,. )
Would be working with their lawyers on TN process.
I know some other folks also wanted try a change, If its of interest to you, for a ball park figure in terms offer comparison, the cash compensation part of the offer is about 25% more than the maximum offer I was offered here. I am not taking the exchange rate difference, 401K, stock options, stock purchase plan, tuition fee reimbursements, these are ofcourse obvious long term incentives.
There was a chance of pursuing another opportunity which could have paid 5% more but considering certain logistics, I stayed away. The reasons I highlighted this is that you could certainly target more than 25% compared what I was able to settle with considering my own priorities.
Good to hear JRF ..All the very best ....
How much will moving cost and will the new Employer compensate for it ?

Went to the border (Rainbow bridge) and got the TN status for self and TD for the family. It is $50 (for TN) plus $6 for each I-94 totalling $68 for 3 people.
The border was largely empty this morning around 10:00 AM, we were called as we handed the passport to the border officer.
Our names were called, our papers were collected, after 40 minutes of review called in for a mini interview about the job role I would be performing, very straight forward, very courteous approach by the officer despite my little son of 4 years was running around.
Once we got the I-94, we immediately returned back to the Canadian border (after a U-turn) and as usual 10-20 seconds standard questions from Canadian border agent and that is it, we are back home.
My position was under the NAFTA classification "Computer System Analyst" , the offer letter documented by the TN lawyer stated this and it also stated the internal position as the "Database Administrator" along with job description which I replayed during the interview.
I should be finalizing the start date shortly.
What paper did I take for my wife ?
Just the Marriage certificate.
What paper did I take for my son ?
Just his Canadian birth certificate that list both Parents.
What were my documents ?
- Lawyer paper.
- Offer letter.
- TN Nafta classification document.
- Copy of Degree and certificates (took the original with me which were returned).
- Resume.
I have both Bachelors and Masters Degree in Computers and about 15+ years of experience, I was expecting they would ask me about my prior 8 years of US experience but they kept it straight and simple.

Couple of qs :
a. Where can we find the NAFTA classification on the web ?
b. I have heard that in case of a CSA category the job should not entail development or anything else but Analysis ..How does a DBA OR Developer qualify as a sub category ?
c. I am assuming in your resume you must have worked as a DBA . Was there any qs as to why your resume does not show CSA experience ?
I m slightly confused ..If I have worked as a CSA 10 years back and worked as an Analyst /Developer Consultant for the past 5 years , would I qualify under CSA ?

Check this. http://ois.njit.edu/docs/TN_Employment_Categories.pdf

I haven't heard of anything, I've seen more developers going there. I am a DBA and my offer letter clearly mentioned my duties that are typical of a DBA.

My resume included mostly as a DBA, some experience as a Managing staff, very little as a Systems Analyst (15 years back probably).

My offer letter mentions that the position's NAFTA classification is CSA but internal title is Sr. DBA. Hope this helps to clear some questions.
