hey everyone,

I'm an international student and got my study visa from september 2013 to august 30, 2015.
Initially i came for a two year diploma course but after coming here i changed to a one year diploma course. I did one semester from september 2013 to december 2013. My second semester was to start in january 2014 but i dropped the semester and informed college authorities i will rejoin in may 2014 and then complete my 2nd semester. So i haven't been doing anything here since january 2014.

The problem is that I do not wish to continue my studies here anymore and wish to go back to India. I have a boyfriend who is canadian citizen and we will get married after 2 years from now. Till then i want to go back to my home country but people here advice me not to do this as it will be a problem for me when my husband sponsors me in future.. since i came on student visa, dropped a semester and did nothing and then just went back home. I want to know is this really possible that if i go back right now, it can have negative effect when i file PR after 2 years?? Please advice. Thank you in advance.

ALWAYS STRENGTHEN YOUR TIES HERE and COMPLETE WHAT YOU STARTED... You will have more friends from school and later on in life and also at work.

There is some truth to this and the people who are telling you all of this surely know a little bit more than you are telling us here, which I call it as apprehension, and want you to avoid any complications in the future.

Here is my take.: Having completed one semester and wanting to do the second half to complete, being free now, collect all of the course materials and cvomplete the second semester and obtain the DIPLOMA and have it under your belt. You can ACE it. Now you are all set, does not matter which way the wind blows. You can always get back into Canada and also get a job very soon after arrival. You can also return to India and get employment there. (Not knowing the diploma, I will hold that for you to do the analysis)

Some of the rules have changed since 7th feb 2013 and a few more will crop in soon and the hurdles, hoops and loops that yoou will have to go through and answer to, wil be announced very soon and will become effective from 1st of june 2014. So, they are going to make it tough and what effect it will have on your personal life and career will be determined after that date and a few might already know them, so I cannot comment here.

Life here in Canada is hard, especially for those who land here and want to enhance it. You being so young, should take that into stride and make it a lot easier for yourself, since you are returning back to live and raise a family. Hence my suggestio to you is, that you DO COMPLETE a course of your choice, prior to departure. I see no problems in your re-entry back, as a spouse after that.

I may be mistaken, I thought being in love and having companionship while you are going through your studies, would have given you more impetus in your studies and enabled you to ACE in your educational aspirations. Cutting it down from TWO years to ONE and now Two semesters to ONE and now want to pack up and go back, feels like you are home sick and want to be closer to some one that you can confide in person than communicate with them by any other means , that are currently available to them there in India.

What ever you wish to do, do it in a fashion that will let you come back into Canada, without any setbacks. All I can ask you here is strengthen the ties and the BRIDGE that you will be crossing once more, needs to be fortified with a welcome back on its overhead sign.

Good Luck in your life and career.

Additional operational measures to support transitional regulations will be announced closer to June 1, 2014, when the new rules take effect.

Wow. I'm so glad I came through this website and shared my problems here. Thanks so much for taking the time to analyse my situation so well and giving your valuable opinion. I didn't even say much and you understood the underlying meanings so well. This website surely has very experienced and knowledgeable seniors!

Yes, your absolutely right.. I'm very home sick and haven't seen my family for 7 months now.
The fact that my boyfriend is a citizen here and there's no doubt we're getting married in two years.. makes me want to take a short cut and avoid all the hardships of being an 'international student'. I feel like why am I spending 3 times the fees (compared to a domestic student) that too on a course which will be of NO USE to me in the future. I'm doing project management diploma which i find of no use as i don't want to make a career in this field. I have some other courses in my mind of my interest which I can do now but then again it comes to my mind that i can always do these courses later on in life and save the money now for future. Its so hard to earn money here and specially when I feel I'm spending my dad's hard earned money whereas I can do the same course at three times lesser fees after two years. I have no idea whether or not my thinking is on the right track because my parents feel i should leave the present course and do a course of my interest right now. even my boyfriend feels the same. But I'm the one convincing everyone that this will not be a good decision. I don't want to take a wrong decision just to make my life easy right now.
Would you suggest me to take up a different course right now and continue being here till my study visa expires? Also, im not very sure if i leave this course will i get my Social insurance number after 6 MORE months of study? Because if i continue in the present course i need 2 more months to complete full time studies of 6 months in past 12 months to apply for SIN. but i'm not sure about whether this will change if i take up a different course right now. Also considering that Im not at all interested in doing the project management course 2nd semester, what would you suggest?
Thank you so much once again!

I can CONFIDENTLY say that as an INTERNATIONAL Student, you can seek employment here and when you get employed, can work 20 hours a week upon you getting your STUDY PERMIT. See the link provided above. You have your answer there, even before you asked the question. They are specific and make sure that you follow their write up.

If you want to pursue a DIFFERENT Degree or a DIPLOMA, seek VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE at the place where you want to pursue your studies. That is a must. From the statements above, you have repeatedly said that, what you are currently studying it is not the course of your choice and find it a waste of time. Also see if you can get credit for the courses taken thus far prior to enrolling into the next. If they will give you a break, then, go for it. That will shorten the time you would spend studying and will let you get back home, which is what you want to do.

So, meet with the VGCouncilor, get an OK first. See if you are able to get credit for the previous study from him/her, get an acceptance letter, pay the fees and obtain STUDY PERMIT FROM CIC. Then, get serious with your studies and complete the Diploma that you always wanted to be proud about having. Ask the councilor if there is 'on campus hiring'. Also ask what are the starting salary and a list of prospective employers near by and in other provinces and in whole of Canada also.

You have incurred a lot of expenses and you should be proud and return home with a Diploma to show and make your re entry an easy task.

Good Luck.

FH.
