Can a newly landed immigrant file his first tax return online, because I guess there is not much to be included in it and can be worked out without the help of a tax expert.
And about the CCBT, can it also be done online. Should we attach the required documents or only to be provided if asked, for example they ask for birth certs, passport copies, etc.

Secondly, Is it adviseable to make My Account here and get all done online, if so which one of the following is better to make account from, from Sign In Partner or CRA login. Please suggest. Thanks

I think that they are back on line with a SECURE connection and with NO Heart Bleeds.

Most of us have a TAX ACCOUNT established with the CRA and when we submit it gets reconciled to that account with them.

Currently they say you can file your tax return too, as a first time filer. So, take advantage of it. Either save a copy or preferably a print out for your files. I am still in the old school and prefer a paper copy for some reason. Remember the CRA will only provide you with a copy of your NOA not the complete return as filed by you.

As for CCTB, which is Child Tax Benefits, they normally look for photcopies of your PP and Birth Certificate and also a link to your tax return, which they know that they have, but it will be nice to quote your SIN Number and tell them who you are in their tax files. They need your current address or some details of your Bank Account for direct deposit.

Call them and get help in establishing an account on line. You can also try it yourself and see if it is possible by filling in a form with the required details and see if it will provide you with that.

Good Luck.

FH.

I could not open that particular link that you have provided. But got to their web site.

We already discussed about the first time filling at http://canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=35064

You can apply for the CCTB by using "Apply for child benefits" online service at My Account. However you need to have access to my account.

To get access, you will need:
•your social insurance number;
•your date of birth;
•your current postal code or ZIP code and;
an amount you entered on your income tax and benefit return, so have your copy on hand (the line requested will vary and it could be from either the current tax year or the previous one).

So unless you file your return you won’t be able to apply for CCTB online via My Account

Alternatively you can login with Sign In Partner (i.e. online banking information viz. BMO Financial Group,CHOICE REWARDS MasterCard, Scotiabank, Tangerine, TD Bank Group)

Thanks FH and seenimesh, do you agree with the following response !

Quote:

"Download "StudioTax2013," use it to make your tax return, print it then mail to CRA (via Canada Post).

There's also a section there for applying for direct deposit.

After a couple of weeks, you'll get your tax return straight to your bank account. Then you'll receive a letter from CRA giving you instructions on how to activate your eFile/MyAccount.

You have to do it the Canada Post way for the first time.

Anyway, I believe tax return filing is over for this year."

There's no such thing as this. You can go back 10 years and file your returns. If you owe CRA be prepared to pay a penalty for late filing as well an any interest accumulated for amounts you owe.

The deadline is to avoid the penalty & interest only if you owe.

You can certainly download Studio Tax and DIY.

What I'm trying to understand is why are you rushing for a MyAccount. Once you get your Notice of Assessment, you have to apply online for the MyAccount. CRA will then send you the login credentials by snail mail.

But you started with complications on online filling + CCTB application + my account or sign in partner and blah, blah , blah.

Just refer File your taxes online for free section on CRA website @ http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/txtps/2013/tt130212-eng.html and file your return.
