BJP did a good job in handling the Iraq issue. Shows the astuteness of the minister, Sushma Swaraj. India let Saudi and others to handle the issue. Good beginning on the foreign issue. Hope India did not pay ransom.
Here is my qn. Why these nurses and others go to that god forsaken place? What were they thinking? Aren't there other countries for them to go to work? They went on their own through agents and they need Indian govt support during crisis and to come back. What is wrong with these people? As if there are no jobs in India. The media was stupid enough not to ask qns regarding how they went to Iraq The nurses were claiming that they were not paid in the last couple of months and they had borrowed money from banks in India to go to Iraq. What an idea, sir ji!
Someone on CD was planning to go to Iraq to work. Any updates?
MKBLR,
Nurses in India are one of the most trodden down positions as of now. A nurse gets Rs 5,000 in kerala (pvt. hospital). There was a proposal to take it up to Rs 9000 but the private hospital lobby shot it down.
Kerala has an abundance of nurse who are not employed. Many have educational loans of min. 2 lakhs. Going to Saudi / Kuwait is not that easy. For going to UK, they need to pay 20 lakhs to agents, which many canot.
Going to Iraq was easy. They paid Rs 2 lakhs to recruiting agencies and were supposed to work for 3 months for free. After that they were promised Rs 45,000 a month. So they took the bait. Actually Iraq was good. Many employers were ready to pay the amount but the war took the toll.
I was supposed to go to an American MNC which paid its empoyees in excess (as I have several contacts there). Unfortunately, since I held a Canadian passport, the govt. of Iraq rejected me. First for the same company they rejected me in 2007 for Libya and now for Iraq.
Peace by Murali Krishna

TK must be thanking his stars that he got rejected for Iraq otherwise he too might have been captured by the militants. And they certainly would not have provided him access to the Canadian Desi forum ;-)
