Hi,
I am an IT Project Manager with 10+ years of experience in India and my company is transferring me to our new Canada office in Mississauga (ICT-Intra Company transfer). I am offered CAD 80K per annum + other benefits (health insurance, bonus etc.) . Is this a good offer to accept? We are a family of two (me and wife only). What will be the standard living cost in Mississauga for a small family (rent for 1 bed room apartment, other costs)? Now I am getting INR 1 Lakh per month in India.
It is a very good salary for a person getting Rs 1 lakh in India. I am even thinking if it is real. So that is how good an offer it is.
Mississauga is a nice place with a lot of Indians. You can get apartments from $ 800 (one bed) to $ 1400 (One bed condo with a host of facilities like gym, swimming pool, party hall, library and a view of square 1 , a very big shopping centre in Ontario).
Just take the offer.
Health insurance is essential and may run up to $ 500-$600 a month to your employer and so that is free money.
Your wife can also work here (cash job as she may not have permission to work on payroll).
Hope this helps.
Shoot any other doubts that you may have.
After a long time I am seeing an IT engineer with a job, coming to CD and asking for our opinion.

Thanks a lot Murali, for the info. Actually I am from Kerala. And the offer is real as I got it from my own company where I am working for past 5 years.
As per my research, the monthly salary after deducting tax will come around 4K. And assuming the total expense as 2.5 K (rent, food, car, other expenses), the saving will be just 1.5 K which is around 80K INR. So when I agree that this is better than my current monthly salary of INR 1 lakh, I don’t think it is “too good to be true” considering other factors about staying in India and abroad. Can you please tell me why do you think it is very good salary for a person getting INR 1 lakh per month in India?
I think your take home would be 4.5K pm with health coverage.
Your expense would range b/w 2 - 2.5K pm... lets consider 2.5K
Your savings would be 2K pm which is greater than Rs 1 lac pm or what you are making in total currently.
Assuming that out of your current salary of 1 lac pm you are able to save INR 60K pm.
Your increased saving pm would be 110-60 = 50K pm or 6 lacs more per year ...
This offer would be equivalent to getting INR 1.75 lacs gross in India.
Your call !!
BTW - Is your current salary of 1lac / month before or after taxes ?

Sorry I forgot the bonus .. Add 10% more to the Canadian numbers ... so may be you are looking at a comparable Indian salary of 2 lacs + pm gross .
