Dear friends,
I intend to buy a mini van soon but the insurance quotes that I am getting are horrible, like it's coming around CAD500 per month. As I am a new immigrant and unemployed yet, so can't think of paying this big amount per month. I am a Mississauga resident and got my G license in Sept 2014. Please suggest me as to how can i have an insurance in the range of 250 to 300 per month. Should I go for an old model, will it help reducing my insurance price or take a sedan car instead of mini van ! Please advise, thanks

Van's are cheap but insurance is expensive.
Cars are relatively costly but insurance is cheap. Select your choice.
One turn around idea is that you give your friends address as your home address. Try cambridge ./ Guelph or KW. Insurance will come less. However, if you meet up with an accident and the insurer has to pay you money, he will check all deatils so as not to pay you. So be careful on that.
What I generally tell my clients is that buy a van and pay $ 500 insurance. However, if your budget for insurance is only $ 180, do off jobs / trips to ikea / food banks to save $ 320. YOu can. Atleast you can save $ 200 by switching on to innovative habits. I have found that a car / van is very much necessary to enjoy life in Ontario and that too you have lived in Saudi, where your family would have travelled all the time by van / car.

Hasni :
To buy a car -
Now itself, go to Kijiji and put 50% off offer on every car that you see.
Some will abuse you but donot care. Soon (within 2 weeks), you will see that some one needs money urgently / wants to sell urgently so that he can go aborad and he will give it to you at the low price.
I have always bought like that. Note that the onus is on the seller to take safety when he will sell it to you. You can choose your own mechanic to see if the car is good (apart from safety). People will do it for $ 75 to $150. Fido has a good recommendation (protugese) in Brampton. You will pay for the mechanic from your pocket.
Suggest you to take Camry or Corolla (2008 + model). Pontiac sunfire and Ford Escort is also good. Try some old people's (who have just died)'s car. That will be a very good bet for you.

TK ... you should have stayed in Canada and have a settlement services business (with or without govt funding)
Take just Third Party Liability Insurance.
No need for Full comprehensive insurance..not worth it for a used car.
Use a broker , sometimes they can give you a better deal.
Tk, amazing ideas and suggestions....but i am curious what does trips to ikea get ?
Apparently you had been off site for way too long . Ikea offers cheap breakfast . So when you travel there you can get lot of left overs in dumpsters ( info has been provided and verified by PK) . Don't count gas and time as it has no value for some .
