Guys,
I tried applying for Australian immigration today.
I saw that there was no Visa for Canadian to work in Australia and eventually settle there. There are only 3 month tourist visa's.
However for NZ people they are offering work in Australia without any further registration.

For Australia immigration, you first have to fill up a lengthy form known as EOI (Expression of interest). I filled it up. It took 30 mins. This will be a request to the Australian Govt. to see if they can allow you to apply.

But it will not take my EOI. I think found that my skills have to be assessed by an Australian agency even before I apply for EOI. I tried changing my profession of Architect to Draftsperson (a very low level job) or a designer. But it is still asking for evaluation of my skill set. I tried to put some fictious address but it is asking for agency name, date of evaluvation and receipt number. So I discarded my EOI application.

Let me see if I can get my skill set evaluated free of Charge or with minimal charges .

TK, you should double check their website. I do not think you can do evaluation for free or minimal charge. It has to be done by whoever they assigned to do the evaluation and you have to pay whatever they charge.

Thanks RajCanada.
I checked the Acredition board for the details.
They are asking for Aus $ 1050 for the evaluation and are asking for 16 week processing time. Mind it this is just to evaluate your degree / course work. What they are asking is the following :

1. write up stating how you feel your degree programes is comparable to an australian degree programme.
2. Degree certificate
3. Mark sheet.
4.Your sylabus certifified by a competent authority.
5. Fee.

I donot think it is worth it but then Australia exited me due to the weather. Similar to Canada, they state that only 6% of the total land mass is suited for agriculture.

They also need you to sign a form / booklet before giving you a immigartion visa to state that you will confirm to Australian culture. The book let is similar to the one that we read for citizenship test giving a history of Australia. They have conveinetly understated the injustice done to the aboriginals who was 750K in number when the white people landed while emphaziseing that we need to adapt to the great Australian culture which is the industrialized nation's culture.

Anyone in CD thinking of Australian migration? I personally think that we Canadians (or Americians, or West Europeans) should be given a immigration visa based on our passport. NZ people are given that.

TK ....
stay in India happily .. or
come back to Canada .... or
travel between Canada and India, ... do something useful for Canada ... of course for india too.
Forget about moving to other countries ... don't waste your time, energy and ..... money too. Its not worth it.

TK ,

Australia has always had the requirement of getting a skill assessment done by an Australian accredited Organization and the Organization assesses if you are up to the levels there or would need additional courses to come up to the level there.

TK,
please keep us posted. Also, do let us know why you are planning to make another big move in your life. I doubt it is because of the hot weather - as it must be pretty hot when you currently live esp in summer time.

Also, do keep in mind that the problems you faced in Canada wont go away just because its Australia. Be prepared to toil hard initially. Its one think getting a job in India as Chief Architect, but its a different ball game in Australia. Good luck.

If you are serious about moving out of India, consider gulf (UAE, Qatar etc). India talent is very much in demand there.

Hi TK,

You know Architecture is a regulated profession like Law, Pharmacy, Doctors etc. Even assuming you get to Australia , the process to get into Architecture is same. Assessment , Obtaining Skills, Training-apprenticeship, then start as Junior job then normal job. If you are willing to invest 4-5 yrs starting with a Masters Course and then enter the work force you are good . If you are expecting an architect job in initial months it is impossible. You will end up ranting the same as when you were in Canada.
