Congratulations, you made it !
Since your wife has a job. Try not to get into a basement. Do not do that Please , not worth it. You can afford an apartment in Mississauga or few other places. I know you recently came from India and conversion, saving etc might be in your mind, but do try for an apartment ( one bed room ) in a high rise. You will not regret taking my opinion. Basement is for different league of people.

$1000, With this budget, you can easily get good walkout basement anywhere in mississiaga, etobicoke , scarborough or even in some parts of Toronto. But if u r looking for an apartment then only Scarborough would be an option. Not sure if you will get apartment in Mississauga for $1000 all inclusive.

Good point. You will end up paying 120/extra on bus fare.It is better to stay as close as possible to work place, transit, subway, food store even if u have to pay little extra

Try mississauga near sq1 , hurontario/dundas area you can get 2bd for $1000 to 1200 on average apartment.... it will also be easy to commute to downtown and kind of you are in center off all area.

dont be afraid to lease out one year, dont jump to much just stable for year , you will know city well and get familiar with rules , regulation and work culture, next year you can take firm decision.

things will change as time pass by so beginning just stay calm

NO , do not try that. You will have to pay 2 fares . One for Mississauga Transit and then TTC fare.

Live close to Kipling or Islington subway stations if you want & within TTC zone.

Guys, thanks for your suggestions. We have finalized a Studio apmnt in Davisville for $1120. It's expensive but at least centrally located n near wife's office.

Where are you guys located & how much do u pay for rent?

Costly for sure but then if you like it, then no questions.

Before a CD used to live in Davisville. Unfortunately, she is not coming to CD these days, though from FB I found out that she is still in Davisville.

Davisville is a whites area which is good. Smile at each white person when you meet them and engage in small talk like the weather, hockey and the like. Never ask personal questions to white people.

Our dear Indian embassy is neat Davisville. If you feel like visitinf Desi's, just drop in and you will see 30-40 Indians there.

Beware when using the toilets there. Once when I used the toilet, the door got stuck and I had to crawl out from the gap at the bottom of the door. The washrooms are clean, unlike the washrooms at other embassies of India across the world./
