I miss the Marble Floors in India. Even Wooden Floors would be Nice but No! We are all doomed to tread carpeted floors for the rest of our lives :(

Ya Ya I know "some" houses do have Wooden floors but I'm talking about the general trend. :D

The 'cardboard' houses cost $300, 000. Can you imagine with brick wall, solid wood doors and marble floors, how much would a house cost? Construction labour is quite expensive.

most houses, I have lived in, in TO and Mtl have been with wooden floors. As far as I remember only the first rented apartment had carpeted floors. Ofcourse, rented apartments mostly have parquet flooring( tiled wood).
All my friends houses in Mtl have wooden floors too(mostly hardwood). My agent had advised me to look for houses with hardwood flooring(unless the carpet was hiding good flooring).
Maybe the realestate agents on the board can give their input on the trends. Afaik most people prefer hardwood floors.

Forget the construction costs...I think it would be quite expensive to heat marble floored, brick houses. Remember how cold those tiles used to get back home when the temperature dropped? Wood structures are probably better for Canadian climate. At the same time I would prefer marble/tiled floors inIndia for the same reasons.

I have seen quite a few new houses - both model houses as well as the ones which are 3-4 yers old. I live in one of such houses too. The trend I have noticed is that of full wooden floors or main level wooden floors and bedrooms having carpet. I like the second type - which gives a good feel to the house on the main floor and as we do, keep the house slippers at the bottom of staircase which allows us to slip them on as soon as we hit wooden part and then in the bedrooms we walk barefoot. It keeps the bedrooms clean, and during winters, they are warmer than wooden floors.

Basements have also started having this trend it seems now.
