We will find a way or we will make one
Add On: People (present owner or past owner) tend to keep pets. Due to carpetted floor, many people esp kids gain a quick allergy to these, causing respiratory problems.

Thanks for more infor jake3d. As we observe, small kids crawling, licking things around, or even their own hands etc, which has touched the carpet with allergans. This kind of environment is not very healthy for infants esp due to their lesser immunity.
Just to add to what others have said - basement apartments are unsuited for young babies for another reason - lack of proper sunlight during the day.
This can have everlasting effects of the baby's body and mind.
Sunlight is very important to regulate our hormones and for the making of natural Vitamin D in the body.
And artificial light, especially in the night, is very bad for the body's endocrine system.
Also, if the basement apartment doesn't have windows, then no fresh air can circulate easily.
This is again bad for obvious reasons - the air in the ducts will keep circulating and carrying allergies around.
Outside air inlets don't work well in most cases and it is definetely not a replacement for normal fresh air.
In terms of the carpet and allergies, even if the baby is not genetically predisposed to certain allergies, exposure to carpet related substances (dustmites and others) can trigger an allergy in the baby, either at this time or later in life.
The body has a certain tolerance threshold for non-tolerated substances - and it can go on for a long time by accumulating them.
But sooner or later the threshold is reached and the body produces the allergic reaction.
That's why some kids suddenly become allergic later in life to substances that they were not previously allergic to.
