My 2 cents
1. Start with basement apartment. (Rent would be close to 900 for 2 bedroom apartment). Search in kijiji.ca and craiglist.ca
2. Don't limit yourself to furnished, even if you get an unfurnished basementin decent locality, you can manage with sleeping bags for 1st 1-2 months and after that decide if you are liking the place/neighbourhood or not.
3. In Mississauga, mostly desis rent their basements, so in that case you don't have to sign any lease. You have to pay first month and last month rent.
4. Buy minimal stuff in the starting, so that you don't have problem in shifting.
To reach Union(Toronto Downtown), you have many options.
1. Go train from Cooksville Go
2. Go train from Erindale Go
3. Go Train from Dixie Go
4. Go bus from square one
5 Go train from Lakeshore
To reach above go stations you may have to take mississauga transit bus.
You can Google Presto card, to get an idea about fare.
Side Note: This is good discussion and very helpful for newcomers... CD stand for this.
very healthy and useful topic... keep it up guys.

If you sign one year lease , you are stuck for one year .
You can move easily till Oct. before winter sets in.
Downtown is accessible from pretty much everywhere .. either on GO or TTC .. I guess the choice would be where you get your job .....
If you get it in Mississauga / Toronto then you d consider staying at Islington Bloor Apartments as this is a unique location where you have access to both TTC and Mississauga Transit ...... But if you get your job in Brampton / Markham / Richmond Hill , Scarborough , you would be better off staying in that city and your wife commuting to Down Town .
I guess the best option currently would be , rent a basement apartment in Etobicoke / Scarborough for now on a month to month lease .... furnish minimally and stay there temporarily till your own job and location is finalized than based on that shift decide the place .

Hi All,
We reached Toronto. Immigration was smooth, no issues. We are staying at a hotel in Scarborough provided by wife's company for a week. Started looking for accommodation on internet now. Many options I see on Kijiji are semi-furnished. If fully furnished, they are usually basement apmnt, which as u all say is very dark n gloomy in winters.
Looking for some area easy/quick for her to travel and also where I can easily find automotive job. Right now want to go for cheap and best option which is convenient for her work place and job search for myself as we are on a single salary.
- Wife's office is in Queen's Quay West. I'm yet to search for an Automotive job. So which area do you suggest for accommodation? Budget: Around C$ 1000 for a fully furnished house.
- Would Mississauga, GTA etc have cheaper rentals but costlier to travel to work due to expensive Go/other bus passes?
- Downtown apmnts look good but expensive. If I find a job very far, I would be spending a lot on travel right/.
Need to find accommodation by next Tuesday as company-provided accommodation is only for a week. Please suggest areas!
Thanks,
AE

dont be afraid to lease out one year, dont jump to much just stable for year , you will know city well and get familiar with rules , regulation and work culture, next year you can take firm decision.
