I am planning to stay in Paris / London for a couple of days, en-route to India. Has anyone here does this before?

How much will be the fare difference as compared to a regular flight to India (Toronto - Paris - New Delhi)?

How is the luggage handled?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I have done this in 2011 with family and NO extra cost for stop over. However, depending upon the days you select, there might be cost differential between connecting flights since mostly weekend flights are more expensive compared to the weekday flights. Just that the difference is not due to your break.

We flew Air France, so no extra airport taxes. There is a paid luggage storage in the Airport terminal where we left about 5 large bags and traveled with 3 smaller bags to London via train. Returned to Paris after 3 days, collected the bags from the storage and checked in again for flight to Mumbai.

We preferred Paris over London due to higher taxes for Heathrow.

It is perfectly do able.

Since we travel to India during winters , we go via Dubai and enjoy 4-5 days of sunny pleasant weather plus reliving some old memories

A stop over should be well planned - as others have pointed out air fare should not be changed because of this ... but you would need to manage other costs while in the city which you go with visiting the place like hotels , transportation ...

Good tip of using the cloak room @ the Airport to store your luggage.
