I don't normally vote Federal Govt based on provincial issues - but looking at the bon-homie between baby Justin and mama Wynne I am planning to vote anyone but liberals.
I also dont know if there is a provision in our constitution to challenge the govt for passing bills that residents do not agree with and those which were not part of election manifest.
If HOT roads are implemented, it will be day light robbery since the govt is going to charge us to use the infrastructure they build from our tax dollars. If they want HOT road, they are free to build new ones - but they cannot take away the ones which the tax payers already own.

Why is it called HOT when it actually means toll to be paid by low occupancy vehicles?

It's not a regular toll.
If you have 1 or more passenger in vehicle then you can use this lane for free.

31 years ago when I had first gone to Singapore to live, one of the many things that impressed me and made a lot of sense was it's rule relating to entry of vehicles into the CBD (Central Business District). The rule said:
1. One may enter the CBD free either before 7.30 am or after 10am
2. To enter the CBD free between 7.30am and 10am, a vehicle needs four persons in the vehicle
3. During this restricted time, a vehicle with less than 4 persons could still enter the CBD by buying a sticker for $3 for that day (or $60 for a month) and display the same on the windshield of the car.
The above rule reduced the traffic in the CBD during peak hours substantially - and encouraged car pooling or served as revenue to the govt to better maintain its roads, or to put in public transit development.
Since then, the rules have changed from time to time and I think at present the free entry is restricted to only a few hours during the day and from evening to early morning, and ofcourse, the ticket buying and displaying has changed to electronic cash card with money being deducted the moment you enter that area.
So, in my view, the idea of charging toll for usage by low occupancy vehicles is great, till that money is better used for some other development to ease traffic congestion.
Fortunately I do not have to use Highways to commute to and from office - but one thing that prevents me from moving to cheaper houses areas like Pickering, Ajax etc. is the horror of highway commute, day in day out. Something really needs to be done to ease that.
