1. The whole issue has been very very poorly handled.
2. The Cong is surely trying to achieve some kind of secret deal under the aegis of the Nuclear Deal.
3. Why there is no open discussion in the parliament before approaching the IAEA/NSG?
4. How does it matter even if the trust vote is won on the basis of 'bought' votes and criminal votes?

Eitherway the trust vote goes, it is a loss for India and shame on democracy.

Its not only the Cong, even the BJP is guilty in this issue - thier stand has been constantly changing.

The only winners in this trust vote :
1. Criminals - whose vote is valued at Rs. 25 Cr (approx).
2. Those unethical politician who will vote for some amount of money.
3. The nuclear technology and raw material suppliers of the NSG.

NO ONE (including myself) is sure about the benefits/limitations of this deal for India in the long run. Many Nuclear scientists (including APJ Kalam) have been swinging from one side to other..not sure.

If the govt losses the trust vote, will that stop the deal going through?

Besides voting, lets hear some comments from knowledgeable CDs.

I agree with Hiren on the first point that PMO has not handled this issue well, but at the the same I sincerely think that the nuclear deal is a steal for India under the current circumstances. The IAEA draft which has been realesed few back definitely favours India big time.
Although Govt. may be gulity of few favours to get the numbers like renaming Lucknow airport on Ajit iSingh's father name, giving Ministerial berth to Sibhe Soren, but I don't agree with him on the Rs. 25 crore point.
Its a touch and go for the Govt., but I feel that the Govt will be able to scrap thru the trust vote. If the Govt. is voted out then it will be really a sad day for the country as India will lose out on this golden oppurtunity because of bad politics.

In another 24 hours we will know whether Manmohan Singh govt has won the trust vote. Our guess probably is that the govt will lose the vote by a whisker. The reason is that though the corporate bigwigs want the nuclear deal with USA, they do not have further use for the present prime minister, finance minister and bureaucrats like Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Anyway, people are not going to vote for the Congress in the coming elections and the corporate magnates will have to find their equivalents in the BJP (like the late Pramod Mahajan) to fill the corridors of power. The Congress too knows that it will not return to power. It has to fill its coffers with US dollars, like the Late Indira used to do against original congressmen like Morarji and Kamaraj with Russian aid during 1960s and 70s.

Based on what the Indian news channels are reporting, the Govt. will barely manage to scrape thru the trust vote, mainly because of few anticipated abstentions.
By the way anyone had a chance to watch the debate in the Parliament. I think L.K. Advani's attack on the Prime Minister was quite personal, your opinion.
Few more hours and we will know wheather the elections will be in November or next March.

Unfortunately, there's nothing to feel happy about. Agree, they won. But how? Paying criminals to vote for them? Ever heard of Shibu Soren - once jailed for some murder? He will get a ministry. Now 'Paao Bhangra - brrrrrruuuuuaaaah'.

This is called a sham 'DEMOn'CRACY - No morals, no standards at all.

I had a high regards and respects for Manmohan Singh. But the way 'Neta's' were bought in this trust vote, I lost my complete support to him. He's no more a 90s reformer, but a mere 'Neta'.

May God Bless India!!!!
