we are a family with school age kids moving to GTA.
how is markham for an indian family. schools have good ratings. what are the areas to choose and avoid.
how is it for commute to work?
Each one has their way of settling down. So, please give me an idea how you go about doing the same. Here are a few answers to your query.
Your commute will take only a very short time. i.e., from home to work. Also you can make it shorter, if you have a vehicle and drive to work. Down town Toronto will take 90 minutes and Parking is too expensive.
You say you want to move into GTA Area. Do you have a job? If not do you know where the prospective Employers are located. When you locate them, you can apply and get a few responses and if possible a job or a commitment from them. Then you look for a school in that neighborhood and then find an Apartment near by, with in reasonable distance to the School. Is that logical enough for you to understand why I am suggesting all of this?
Space all of this, say within a distance of 6 to 10 klicks or less. That way you save a lot of travel time and that will also give you a lot of time with the family, once you get to start your work.
The last thing you do is look for an apartment. If the jobs are in markham area, then so be it.
That does not answer your question. Markham is a very good place. But there are shady areas in that location also. Try and avoid them as far as possible.
FH.
Give or take, there are 100,000 Chinese there. There are 50,000 Asians there. So on and so forth. It is a decent place to start a family and i am sure you will find a good place to settle down also.
Why am I doing this? I should leave the rest to you to find it for yourself.

Check out the schools and their residential map area that they service .. That s how you can ensure that your kids will go to that school... however maps may also change with time.
Generally speaking the better the schools, the more expensive the area is. I hear very good things about the Bayview Collegiate's IB program, but I guess that's in Richmond Hill map residential map these days ...(used to cover a portion of Markham once)
If open I would also advise you to take a look @ John Fraser school district in Mississauga - you stay close to the West where most Indians are plus the school also is excellent.
