During my recent visit to India, I was told there are many companies [mostly consultants] who claim to be able to arrange job offers in canada. They charge a packet for this because they know the people approaching them are desperate to get the extra points that a job offer may bring them.

The 75 points pass mark for immigration is quite steep for many prospective immigrants and given the choice between learning french and securing a job offer in Canada, they are tempted to go for the latter. This is mainly because those consultants promise them all sorts of things.

The big trick is they promise to refund the money paid if there's no job forthcoming in 6-8 months. Many of these so-called consultants use the monies received from hopefuls to invest elsewhere. They take the money from the next client and return to the old unsuccessful client. Simple formula.

Our advice is "BE VERY VERY CAREFUL'. To begin with, there is no real secure way of getting your money back. And most importantly, it is VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO SECURE AN ARRANGED EMPLOYMENT OFFER IN CANADA. Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC) has to validate the job offer and will only do so if convinced that your skills are unique and that it is in short supply in Canada AND that the ofer will be open until you make it to Canada.
