Bank deposit slip info:

Application Fee Instructions – Toronto Consulate ONLY

Individuals who wish to apply for most categories of non-immigrant visas, at the Toronto Consulate, must first deposit a NON-REFUNDABLE US$100.00 application fee with Scotiabank. THIS FEE IS TO COVER THE COST OF THE INTERVIEW. IT IS NOT REFUNDABLE, WHETHER YOU RECEIVE A VISA OR NOT. Instructions for paying this fee are as follows:

Download all four (4) copies of the deposit slips (copies 1through 4) for each individual application.
Copy 1 - Branch
Copy 2 - U.S. Consulate
Copy 3 - U.S. Consulate
Copy 4 – Customer
Note: Each person applying for a visa requires a deposit slip. (Each deposit slip consists of 4 copies). For example a family of 5 requires 5 separate deposit slips and each family member pays US$100.00).

Pay the fee in person (not by mail or wire) by cash/money order/certified cheque at any SCOTIABANK branch in the province of Ontario only. It may be paid in advance (recommended to avoid lineups at the bank) or on the morning of your interview. The bank teller should keep the branch copy of the deposit slip and give the other three (3)-validated slips to you, the applicant, to bring to your interview.

Submit all three validated slips at the time of your interview at the U.S. Consulate.

At consulate:

You must have the following before you to the consulate:
A confirmation letter
DS-156 form (mandatory for ALL applicants)

DS-158 form ( mandatory for ALL applicants applying for any student visa such as F1, M1, J1)
Prepaid bank deposit slips (Toronto Consulate only)

1. Security guy asked me to show the appointment letter then he gave me the SARS form to fill. I filled it and gave it the person in the booth.

2. Entered inside after passing the security checks.

3. Inside there are 8 counters. At that time 7 counters were open. There was some construction was going on.

4. The security guard asked me hand over the application form (with photo) to counter 7.

5. The lady there took the application form, the H-1B, photo. The receipts from $100 (3 copies) from the bank
She asked me show the proof of ties to Canada. I showed her my Canada PR card. Then she asked me sit down for a while.

6. After 30 min or so, my name was called. (They call like : \"Indian passport holder...Mr.xxxx)
On that day I have seen almost everybody is from a different country (Israel, Singapore, India, Russia, China, Japan...)

8. The lady asked me lot of questions..(around 15 min)
She asked me show the the current employment, PR papers, Canada Tax papers and some tough H-1B questions.

9. Then she asked me to sit down for some time and later she called my name again (after 5 min. or so) and then she gave me small stub (like a sticker) and asked me get the pasports tom'w between 3 and 4 to pickup the passports. Hurray!!

10. Next day I went to consulate around 3pm to receive the passport with the VISA!!!

Notes:

1.There is a Photo machine inside the consulate.

2.There is parking lot just in front of consulate. $3 for 30 min and max is $10.

3.Eventhough the embassy is on the University Ave, the entrace is on the Simcoe St. To enter to Simcoe St. you need to come via Dundas or St. Patrick St. There is no entrance (for the car) to Simcoe St. from Queen St.
The nearest subway station is Osgoode (Yonge-Universtiy-Spadina route - Yellow )

4. I have seen people get rejected for the tourist visas and that too after asking number of questions.

If you are an Indian then there is no need of any security clearance.

It's only those who come from 25+ (mostly muslim) countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Syria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, and Kuwait)

I think you are asking about H-1B processing.

If it's processed under priority processing (which cost $1000 more) then it's less than one month. If it's filed under normal processing then it's anywhere between 4 to 6 months.

Regarding the H-1B visa, it will be issued the day after your interview at consulate.

Anyway you waited for 3 years here, wait till you get the Canadian Citizenship, then if you need to work in US you can work on TN-1 (NAFTA) visa instead of H-1B. Only downside is you can't file for American Green card under TN-1 visa.

I am a Landed immigrant whose been in the US for the last year and half on an H1-B visa. I travelled to US on the H1-B thru the Toronto POE. Since the change of the "Commonwealth Rule" I need to have the visa to re-enter the US.
I now want to go back to India for the H1 stamp. The consulate listed on my H1 document says "TOR" (short for Toronto).

I know that I can get the visa stamped either in the country of my domicile(Canada), or country of origin(India).

What issue does anyone think I will face when I go to India to get the stamping of the visa done.

Thanks to anyone who has an idea, or has heard of anyone's experience.
