It is not waiting period but you have fill the form that you download from internet and then fax or mail it to them and they take about a month to process that and give a quote.

I did meet someone who did not have to wait or fill forms for TD Insurance but he said he is member of some association (similar to OACETT). May be that makes a difference too.

All these factors can make a difference when you deal with car insurance companies:

Type of license (like G, G2, AZ, DZ, etc.)
Your location
Years of driving experience in Canada
Years of driving experience elswhere
Convictions and claims

This is my situation when i got my insurance with TD canada trust.
I have no membership with any association.
My driving experience is 2 years.
Area: mississauga
Age: 20
Occupation: University student
License type: G2
Driving record: clean
I had insurance with ING Halifax before for 2 years and expired on July 11, 2004. I had to cancel my policy as they increased my premium by 2000 dollars.
So on July 10, 2004 I called TD bank. Asked them for a quote...They give it right away. Then they asked for information such as my Old insurance policy number and my old insurance company. My driver license number to check my driving record. And then i gave them my bank account number over the phone. They next day they withdrew money for 2 months and then my insurance policy started on July 12, 2004.
They sent me a fax on July 12, 2004 with my policy number and information about my policy.
It just took me 1 day to get my insurance from them.

Iam just providing some information about the process i went through.
TD Canadatrust actually gave me the cheapest rate. The difference was around 2000 dollars from other insurance companies.
