I would like to know - I landed six months ago in Canada and now I have a job offer in South America with 4 years contract, can I and my family still retain the landed Immigrant status while working in South America ? I will appreciate if some can advise me !

as far as i know for one to maintain PR status the following rule s applies 2 out of 5 yrs(but I heard that every 6 months should re-enter Canada - not sure) that means one can stay out of canada for at least 3 yrs.
and for Citizenship 3 out of last 4 yrs

Five years from your time of landing, you need to have been in Canada for an aggregate of two years to preserve your PR. If the employer is a Canadian company, you can stay outside Canada as long as you like.
There's no requirement to come back every six months.
