Adamthorat thank you very much for such a detailed list; I was just about to visit CGI-Toronto (online) to see what info I can gather; While having the Indian passport cancelled, I was confused between CGI-Toronto info and that of BLS site and sent them some 29 bucks more than I should have; i asked them if they could return that money but their answer was: No we can't return the overpayment nor can we hold it for later use by the same applicant!!! Initially, they returned all my docs telling me something or other missing, and boy, was that a headache! Every time I send stuff it costs 35 bucks for mailing alone! So this time I am carefully preparing docs so I could finish it in one go. Thanks for help.... I will check the CGI site to make sure things are properly corresponding. Have a great day; you made my day!

I went physically and did not apply by post , hence 4 physical trips as below.
1. First trip , apply with all original docs and application .
They keep the originals , which they send to the embassy for verification.
They give you the Canadian PP back immediately On the spot after verification, but all other originals like landing paper , indian PP etc etc are sent to the embassy.
2. Second trip , to go and collect all the originals , which come back from the embassy after verification, like landing paper, Indian PP etc etc.
3. Third trip, once OCI is approved ..you have to go and submit the Canadian PP again , so that they can stamp the U visa on it.
They don't stick the U visa on it immediately , which is ridiculous. They make you come back again to pick up your Canadian PP with the visa on it and the OCI booklet.
4. Fourth & Final Trip and the ordeal is finally over !!!
You go in to pick up your Canadian PP with the OCI U visa on it and the OCi booklet !
---------
Hope this helps , anyone who is applying physically. Yes 4 physical trips need to be made !
Plus the pickup and drop off points are at different times !
If you go in the morning , you can only apply !
If you go in the evening , you can only pick up !
So make sure you go at the right time , depending upon if you are dropping off or picking up .

Can someone help me with this, I lost my landed papers and I requested the Verification of Status from CIC. I got it after 6 months and now BLS is asking for status verification which clearly shows the landed category, which they say they have got from other applicants.
I called CIC and they said they don't issue any document that shows the landed category other than the information provided on the Verification of Status.
Does any one know what other document i should be requesting from CIC or any other suggestions.
Thanks

My son received his new Canadian passport and hence needed to renew the OCI sticker. I approached the BLS staff. They said, I will need to first get a surrender certificate for wife before I could proceed. I lost 2 months in the quest for surrender certificate. :-(
Then applied for OCI finally on first week of May, 2013. Finally received the documents for collection message on July 15th, 2013 by which time we had already left for India on a Tourist visa for son.
On the whole, this process will take not less than 2 to 4 months for processing.
Lessons learnt:
1) Don't wait for last minute to get your OCI renewed. The moment you have the passport ready, go for the OCI stamping.
2) You will be making at least 7 visits to the BLS office. Expect to be sent home for not having the right amount, missing a document, wrong size of the live birth certificate photocopy, wrong size of the landing paper, waking up on the wrong side etc.
3) Take a novel or Ipad to while away your time at the office.
On the whole, you will need to be armed with a lot of patience and time.
Cheers
Sri.
Just went through this and thought I'd share my experience. After contacting CIC twice, the second agent was very helpful and told me that what I have to do is fill out the replacement application again and write a letter of explanation describing why I need the immigration category on the document.
I also must include the OCI checklist from the Consulate's website that states that Verification of Landing is not acceptable because immigration category is not therein, and then they will issue me a certified copy of the actually landing papers rather than the verification of landing.
So, that's what I've done. Hopefully, it'll work and I'll get the right document.

Hopefully in 2 months everyone gets it.
