Dear Massoodji,
I am the main applicant and recently landed in Toronto along with my family and stayed there for 10 days to complete all the formalities and now we are back in Kuwait. I will be visiting Canada again next year to enrol my daughter in the university. I would request your advise on the following queries.
1. Suppose if I do not return back to Canada within the three year period to retain my PR status, will my daughter who will be above 18 years and landed in Canada an my dependant and will be studying in Canada will loose her PR status ? Will she be independent on her own and will be eligible for citizenship later.
2. If she is eligible for citizenship, then can she sponsor us at a later date as her dependant partents may be after 10 or 15 years.
3. Do you think since we have given up our PR status once, will immigration department object to granting us PR status later.
Since the job situation in Canada is currently very bleak, we are looking at the above option and hence I look forward to your valuable advise.
1a: no [as long as you did not immigrate as entrepreneur with conditions]
1bes
2: yes, if she meets the applicable requirements
3: under present laws, no BUT who knows what the laws will be 10-15 yrs later. There are many people in Canada who have strong objections to immigrants like you especially if you are not paying taxes in Canada and yet benefitting from the country.

I wish to thank you for your advise.
I am happy to know my dependent daughter's PR status will not be linked with my PR status as I have migrated under skilled category.
Thank you for pointing out that there are many people in Canada who have strong objections to immigrants like me who are not paying taxes, yet benefitting from the country.
My comments to such people are given below:
I had decided to migrate to Canada with all intentions to settle there and hence have deposited a six figure amount in US dollars in three different banks in Canada when I landed there last month as settlement funds. This investment is yeilding only an interest of 0.50% as compared to higher interest rates if I had invested this amount offshore. I intend filing my tax returns as a non-resident during the next three to five years during which period my PR status will be still valid. I don't know after that if I should continue to file tax as I will not be withdrawing my deposits. I would also be investing a further equal amount towards purchase of a house in Canada within the next two years.
As we are getting excellent free health care facility in Kuwait, I will not be availing any health care benefits in Canada neither am I claiming for any child benefit as my only child will be above 18 years when she starts her university education in Canada next year.
As far as Pension fund or Old age fund given in Canada, I will be eligible only if I work in Canada for atleast 10 years minimum, which I intend doing.
The only benefit that I can see is that I will be saving CAD 4,000 per year towards reduced tution fee for PR students as compared to international students, which I consider peanuts compared to the amount I have now invested in Canada.
When we evaluated out career prospects in Canada, I and my husband decided it is better to continue in Kuwait for a further period of 10 years as we can earn and save the maximum here now that the economy is really good in Kuwait, which we will of course ultimately invest in Canada.
Canada is a beautiful country and the standard of living is good, but in any case I would say the standard of living in Kuwait is equally good or even better. As far as the weather conditions are concerned, both the countries have extreme climates. Heat in Kuwait touches 55 degree cent. during July & August and the winter in Toronto touches minus 30, but this does not matter as both the countries are equally equipped with ACs and heaters to cope this.
People from Middle East migrate only for the sake of their children's future education, as expat children are not allowed to study beyond their 12th grade and the options are either to educate them in the US or India.
I have explained the above for all those you think that I am benefitting from Canadian tax payers without giving back any thing to Canada.
Massoodji, one more query- is there an age limit for the parents that are sponsored by their children. My husband and I will be 54 and 50 years respectively and if we are in good health, I don't think Canadian Immigration will object to our immigration then and of course we can either work or start a business even if we are 50 or 54, can't we ?
KuwaitUser,
Your deeds for your daughter are noble indeed. Pls read the following paragraphs with an open mind
You are depositing large sums of money in Canada, which your daughter will be in charge of. Call me a cynic, but isnt that placing "all your eggs in one basket" ? Kya pata, kal kya ho.... Maybe the scenario you expect (i.e., your daughter will re-sponsor you back for immigration) may not happen ! (watching too many hindi films you see )
Call me a cynic, but when it comes to money, I do not trust anyone in this world (except ppl who have actually helped me). I like to be a wretched cynic all the way, unless I have accomplished what I want to accomplish. Maybe you should take adequate safeguards with regards to this. Whatever you do, (i.e., any purchase, any proprty etc.,) should be in your name. You will not lose your PR status, if you keep on visiting Canada preiodically. POp in for a few weeks every 6 months or so or do anything.
You should continue filing ur taxes. That way, you will be assured that the money you have deposited make your "links with Canada" justifiable. Yeh society Paise ki bhasa samajhti hain. I dont think "income" from those deposits will be quite high (i.e., no significant amt of interest) , so you should be on safe ground.
Allocate sufficient money for your daughter i.e., fees + monthly expenditure (boarding, lodging, entertainment). That should suffice. The remaining stuff, you should keep everything under your control.
You have not mentioned if she is your only daughter or you have other children. If you do, then this is even more imperative that you take precautions.
Best of luck in your endeavours !

You know, you will get better interest and liquidity if you open ING-Direct account (2.25% now) and keep moving money online, from your current bank. Just a suggestion. Go to INGdirect.ca
