I wonder if many desis face a problem like me, or are happy with what they get.
Whenver we go to shopping malls and have food outside, the biggest problem is what to eat in the food court. Being vegetarian, the only option I have is either Mr. Sub or Pizza or fries or some Chinese / Thai stuff. But none of the food gives the satisfaction that the desi food gives. Also, I like to eat hot/spicy food, and that is also one of the reason for remaining unsatisfied.
I wonder, why nobody has ever come up with an idea of providing Indian food in those shopping malls. Has anybody looked into the economics of this whole idea? When I put forward this question to a group of my friends, there were few arguments put forward
(1) No Indians generally eat outsides
(2) How many non-desis will prefer to eat Indian food like Idli-Vada Sambhar, Dosa or Parotha-Sabji
But the thing is, most of the food courts have Chinese or Thai or Middle Eastern food restaurants. So if those guys can do it, why can't we? Somebody has to take that extra step, of making Indian food popular.
Ahh meghal
now someone has spoken. Unlike others, who like to "indluge in educated wishful thinking", you have given a valid suggestion as to how someone can get visibility in front of Canadians...
Shops in food courts are the best recourse. The closest I ever had was a desi eatout in the University of Calgary student's centre. It was operated by Kenyan's... Ppl infact asked us to avoid that shop as the food was yucky !.. Apparently they had a non-desi cooking the food !
I have heard of some desi eat outs in New York city.. Can someone confirm that ?

its a good idea. the caribeean food makes alot of money and they serve curries similar to indian curries. also coffee time serves samosa's Ive seen many people enjoy those! i am sure more people would try them out if they were available in food courts!

smile ...
There were of course many indian 'restaurants'/counters in food courts in the US and there is one here in Halifax as well. By and large the Indian food in food courts has been horrible.
I would never eat in one. Of course if you don't have a choice, then one has to consider it.
Toronto doe snot Wada pav, Samosa outlets in all public places. Just stupid Hot dog stands.
The goverment stand of multicultural is untrue.
The rule for "Thelas" is they can only sell cooked food. Isiliyey Samosa and Wada stalls are not started in Toronto.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Hi Friends
About Indian foods, I want to tell my experience in Montreal. Six months back I moved to montreal, eating chienese food, in search of Indian food I was walking and saw one indian name like Bombay Curry(forgot exact name), I entered that resaurants was owned by one Bangladesi(Sorry I am not pointing any body). He brought one extra curry saying that its free because veg briyani curry cant eat without curry, that curry didnt have salt, spices were not proper and termic powder not fried properly. I ordered veg briyani, worst ever had, next day I went another restaurant Piyala (not exact name)Indian nearby, there foods was also horrible.
So I dont go Indian restaurant anymore, in downtown eaton center we had on Indian one except that, evrybody do good business, now its closed.
If somebody do work properly indian food restaurant do good business like KAMMA in downtown,s expensive. Food, location, cleaniness ---great.
premium quality at good price.
The people opened Indian restaurant not professional, hire any illigal to exploit as cook, he learn on job. They think people dont know Indian test, so they serve what they have.
Mu manager came he surprised why CTM(chicekn tikka Massla) doesnt taste like he had in London. Here they add water in yesterday curry sacrificing taste.
So no more Indian food in Montreal outside.
